From its beginnings on February 1, 1940 as the keel was laid at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia, Battleship USS ALABAMA has had a remarkable career. She began her World War II service in the North Atlantic in 1943, then later that year, went to the S. Pacific. She ended up in Mobile, Alabama as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to millions.
Today, the USS Alabama serves as a floating museum and testament to the thousands of sailors that served on the "Mighty A" and helped defend and protect the USA. The USS Alabama is moored at Battleship Park and nearby is the USS Drum (WWII era submarine), and numerous vintage tanks and planes (WWII through Vietnam War era). One admission fee of $15 gets us access to the park all day Saturday.
