This photo was taken in the early morning as the first swimmers were exiting the water. The light was changing quickly and I had boosted my ISO to 1600 several minutes earlier to get an action-stopping shutter speed. In retrospect, I probably could have backed it back down a bit as it continued to get brighter, but the camera saved me by providing a nice, grain-free image. Still getting used to what these new full-frame sensors are capable of.

Nice capture, 1/1600 will stop almost all motion.

Thanks very much Skip. Re: Shutter speed. Understood. My point was that if I had been thinking, I probably could have backed off a bit on the ISO, gotten a higher quality image, decreased to 1/1000 or even 1/800, and still been fast enough to freeze the action. As one of the first out of the water, this guy was moving fast, but not race car fast.... :)

You caught him just at the right second ... one foot in motion... YOU TOO HAD TO BE QUICK! Congrats!
