D- I would be interested in the Mel's Drive in Groupon. I bought one and used it with J and we had a great time. He actually didn't act up too badly.

Oh I have a Porterhouse Bistro $30 for $60 I would sell for $25. Expires 2/8/11.

Happy new year everyone! I found something out yesterday about expired Groupons and thought I would share...I had bought the Nordstrom Rack discount last month...$25 for $50 worth of merch but I realized that it expired at the end of 2010! Well, Groupon told me that the expiration date is when the promotion ends. However, I can still redeem the amount I paid for it at the retailer...depending on state gift certificate laws. Well in CA, gift certificates CANNOT expire! So hold on to your expired Groupons (or any other vouchers)! At least you won't be losing any money. Sorry if everyone knew this already :D

Actually this is a federal law that that says tha gift cards (Groupon says their vouchers are gift cards) retainntheir value for 5 years.

Lily and JLA are both correct. There is a CA statute that says basically if you pay money for a gift card, certificate or voucher of some kind, it cannot have an expiration date. So Groupons, certificates, etc. are never completely worthless. They will always be worth at least what you paid for it. However, the vendor has the right to refuse to honor the promotional bonus value of the certificate if the promotional expiration date has passed. So for example the Nordstrom Rack Groupon would be worth $25 if you tried to use it today, because that's what you paid for it. It wouldn't be worth $50 since the promotional expiration date of 12/31/10 already passed.

Now, Nordstrom Rack and other vendors are technically required to honor Groupons for at least what you paid for it, but sometimes I'll try to use an expired Groupon for what I paid and they won't let me -- usually because their staff or even management doesn't understand the law. My advice would be to not bother arguing with them until they let you use it, because their refusal to honor it is actually a blessing in disguise. Instead, simply call or email Groupon customer service and explain what vendor refused to honor the expired Groupon, and give them the certificate number. They will immediately credit your credit card -- which is even better than getting to use the credit with the vendor, isn't it? I had Groupon credit my credit card for what I paid for Del's and Ciudad, since they wouldn't honor the expired Groupons for even what I paid. So I actually didn't lose any money at all in the process. I think that's part of the reason I buy too many.

Yes, Groupon is wonderful for their customer service. Which is on a level where the air is very thin. In the photographic world, there's only one company with similar customer service called Alienbees. They will honor their warranty without question. I bought a used strobe, didn't know the name of the person I bought it from, they just looked up the serial number, saw it was still under warranty and handled the problem. I bought a battery pack, they came out with a new version and offered all the owners of the original version a 60% discount on the new version. Amazing considering the original one works really great!

I've bought Groupons where the company went out of business or were total crooks and wouldn't honor the groupon. No worries, just email Groupon and they will issue a full refund without question.

I haven't tested most of the other discount purveyors, so I cannot comment. I am a lot more choosey nowadays however.
