Brian Dunsmoor and Kris Tominaga (formally @ Joe's in Venice), the 2 young talented chefs at this new restaurant: The Hart and the Hunter (located in PaliHotel on Melrose) haven't allowed themselves to become so big headed despite their respective impressive resumes. They've created a southern inspired rustic California menu emphasizing the quality and flavor of locally sourced produce, rather than vanity driven items pre-occupied with overly artistic presentations and technique.
Kris and Brian took a 12-day culinary tour across the Southeast through Charleston, Athens, Atlanta, and New Orleans visiting both contemporary Southern concepts like Charleston’s The Hominy Grill, and local more vernacular “no name” places for oyster roasts and low country boils. The trip helped further shape their new menu that blends these southern influences with lots of California’s fresh greens. Anything from the 'Small Plate' category such as their signature 'Butter Biscuit & Condiments' to 'Potted Provisions' category like: Mushroom Duxelle as well many 'Table' dishes like this popular 'Whole Grilled Sea Bream w/Blackened Squid & Blk Eyed Peas'. My favorite is luscious Chicken Liver Salad: chunky crispy outside creamy tender inside fried chicken liver loaded w/slices of crispy Granny Smith, arugula, radish, onion jam, and magical crunchy hazel nuts!
