What is your favorite cuisine?

Hard to argue with a fresh and well put together version of ANY cuisine, made with love and care. Yet I read that and think, hmm, that sounds unfair to the wonderful greasy spoons and cheap taco joints, etc, that LA is so lucky to have. I get irked when non-foodies say, "Oh, we'll eat at ___, I eat there all the time and love it" - and we go there and the food is just boring, repetitive, mass-produced crap that gets a "flavor" boost from its chemical content. The term "foodie" is elusive, but we seem to have a sense of what sets THAT stuff apart from truly good food of all kinds. If someone suggests a chain restaurant, I conclude they are not a foodie.

You are on Death Row... What would you request for your Final Meal?

Hmmm....tough one! The family-style pork-o-rama Mezze does on Saturdays? Tasting menu (w/wine pairing, of course) at Providence? Five things off Animal's menu? The chicken fried steak w/sausage gravy & runny eggs with a pancake side that I have to get ten times a year at a bowling alley deep in the valley? A perfect pizza? Chicken & Dumplings, with Mudd Pie for dessert? Steak Tampiqueno (rare) with a cheese enchilada, with a Wedge on the side? Mac'n'Cheese with Bacon, and one of BLD's *special* home-made ice cream malts? Oh wait, that foie gras meal they served at Waterloo & City on foie's last legal night in LA... oh and I'd have to eat some of the Iberico Jamon from Spain I had in France, with their perfect ripe figs and a baguette... OMG, good luck with my execution, sounds like the rope will snap when they string me up after my Final Meal....

Friends tell me that I earn - and live - the title "Foodie"! I love groups like this where the dinner conversation is just one food story after another.
