This is a tentative start date to see who might be interested in walking California's FIRST pilgrimage, Pómniv. The entire walk to all 21 Missions takes about 2 months. We would only be doing the first 1/4 of the walk for 19 days (17 days of walking with 1 rest day in San Francisco and 1 rest day in San Juan Bautista-returning June 1st). Total distance is approximately 255 miles (averaging 15 miles per day...some are 10 and others 20+).
We would start in Sonoma, CA at Mission San Francisco and walk to Carmel, CA the site of where the first saint consecrated on American soil, Saint Serra, is buried.
You DO NOT have to be religious or even Catholic to participate (I am not myself). This is about having time away from your every day life and to experience a long distance walk (VERY similar to the Camino Santiago). Every night is spent in a hotel room so you only need a day back. Miles vary depending on the day. Please go to Pómniv.org to look at the route.
You are responsible for getting yourself to Sonoma and back home from Carmel. My van is no longer available to shuttle but I may have access to a car with 5 extra seats. Please let me know if you are interested . A small fee applies (you would need to get to Hollywood and back-please Uber/Lyft). Overall price depends on if you share a room. Hotels range from[masked] per night. Food depends on how much you eat and wether you eat all meals in restaurants or pick up food at local markets. I estimate that IF you share a room and limit yourself to one meal in a restaurant per day the trip would cost about $80/day x 19 = $1,520 total. Will work on getting group rates for hotels (need number of participants first). This is an amazing experience especially if you are considering the Camino Santiago...you will save on airfare and be close to home.
