• Jazz in the Springtime at Bocado Cafe

    Bocado Cafe

A little about me -- I look forward to learning more about YOU! As a health educator, I urge people to find their inner artists, because expressing ourselves creatively is the best way to find balance and recover from the daily wear-and-tear of life. I "talk my walk" by teaching people powerful techniques to heal themselves as we are designed to do. Music is an extremely effective way to feel the "healing vibes" that heal our minds and bodies. So how do I "walk my talk"? MY inner artist sings jazz. It took me a long time to be able to say that out loud, but it's the truth. Once I gave myself permission to move ahead in this art form, my whole life opened up. I encourage others to fall in love with this poetry and music that was written so many decades ago. The American Songbook transports people to another place and time and if I'm lucky, people go home floating on little pink clouds. So join me at The Bocado Cafe, where I will host a few hours of musical bliss with other musicians and singers who love the music and lyrics as much as I do. The music will be a great backdrop for conversation with other meetup members -- this isn't a "show" by any means. It's a total experience for meeting with each other in a space full of loving, peaceful, happy vibes. Reservations are recommended. The website is www.bocadocafenyc.com NO cover or minimum, but it is a restaurant / wine bar, so why not come hungry!?

  • Share our stories and meet new friends for 2015

    The Back Room

Go down the stairs, across the lower level, then up the stairs to the bar entrance. Call me if you get lost. [masked]. This meeting is mainly for us to meet each other and as we start 2015. We will hang out, take turns talking about what matters to us. Think of three things to share. For example: what does the word "integrity" mean to you, how do you define it in your relationships, or how do you live it in your life? Or maybe, what does your inner artist do? It's a question I often ask people as a way of getting to where their place of balance and inner peace can be found. When you were a child, how did you express yourself creatively, and do you have any hobbies or even a job now that is similar to that? Another good ice-breaker could be simply a true story about you, when you discovered something about yourself or life that changed everything for you in a moment. Sounds fun? And...feel free to bring your business cards, brochures, or flyers to advertise your business or an event you want to encourage us to attend. I want this to truly be a cross-fertilization of ideas and experiences. See you there!

  • Enjoying each other's inner artists! What does YOURS do?

Mine sings. I didn't choose jazz, or singing solo in any genre or venue. It all chose me...and some great jazz artists made sure I didn't miss my calling. Art Blakey said, "Jazz washes away the dust of every day life." It certainly does for me. Expressing my inner jazz artist is how I recover and repair from life's day-to-day wear-and-tear. What do YOU do to recharge? At future meetings we will have a chance to express these inner artists with each other. Without further ado, here is the description of the meetup for Tuesday, February 10 at 7 PM. ************ The show at The Metropolitan Room on Thursday, February 10, 2015, will be a delight with very special guests. (http://metropolitanroom.com/event.cfm?id=190577) The legendary Melba Joyce (www.melbajoyce.net) is a friend and teacher of mine. Melba Joyce has delighted audiences from Broadway to Viet Nam over the past several decades with too many world-famous artists to list here. If you have never heard her, you are in for a treat. Also joining us is Keith Ingham, the jazz piano player's piano player. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Ingham). He was part of my last show at The Metropolitan Room on March 19, 2013, just before I went into the studio to record my debut CD in Pasadena with Henry "The Skipper" Franklin and Crew (www.henryfranklin.com). Mike Weatherly (bass) and Marc Daine (guitar) have been working with me for nearly 4 years here in NYC. They are half of a four-member "hot jazz" band, the Gypsy Jazz Caravan (www.gypsyjazzcaravan.net) which Marc Daine leads. Also a composer and lyricist (www.marcdaine.com), Daine boasts of two of his originals on Janelle's debut, self-titled CD. Weatherly is bass player for his wife Janis Russell's gospel group, the Lafayette Avenue Inspirational Ensemble, based in Brooklyn. (/www.lapcbrooklyn.org/#!staff/c1w5d). Finally, driving the rhythm section together with Mike on bass will be the one and only Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, "The World's Most Recorded Drummer (www.bernardpurdie.com). Bernard, Weatherly, Daine and Ingham were also in the March 2013 show and meet again for the first time since then. So -- book your seats and eagerly await a fabulous evening at The Metropolitan Room. I look forward to seeing you there. (http://metropolitanroom.com/event.cfm?id=190577) Janelle [masked][masked]

Think. Feel. Transform. NYC. Tap into your subconscious to unleash the power of your mind to create the life you want. Learn to access your "theta" mind to re-program your biochemistry, DNA, brain. It's a physical event, not a metaphysical one. My master teacher Jacque Smillie is coming to NYC to teach an intimate class about how to re-program your life! Asara Lovejoy wrote a book, "The One Command," that has helped many transform their lives. Attend this class in the Upper East Side in a private home to learn how to re-program your subconscious mind to knock out what you DON'T want and replace it with what you DO want. (E.g., out with the hoarding, smoking, anxiety-based stuff and IN WITH LOVE, PEACE, POISE, CONFIDENCE.) This is a pop-up meetup because it isn't a "FREE" meetup, but I decided to let my meetup groups know about it because it truly could be the best investment you make in yourself all year. Regular price is $225. Special offer for my meetup members is $100. AND you can bring a friend for FREE. To register call Jacque Smillie at[masked] and she will take your card number over the phone to "Square" your registration fee. Plus Plus what, you may ask? Besides the chance to meet new meetup friends.... Snacks and handouts to support a short talk I will give on how to use tapping (with your fingertips on acupuncture points) to change your life from the inside out. Ever heard of "Emotional Freedom Techniques" (EFT) or "Thought Field Therapy" (TFT)? I'm a practitioner of both and have been using energy work with great success for ten years. I look forward to sharing information with you which has changed many lives for decades worldwide. Organizer's PS: I've had experiences with folks giving an RSVP of "Yes" and then not showing, which left me with a lot of lovely food feeling very lonely. Therefore.... I'm asking for a love offering of $7.00 to help cover costs (food, drink, handouts, and organizer fees).
