Paddle Kualoa Park(Chinaman's Hat) to Kahana Bay

Aloha Paddlers!! - PLEASE SEE NOTES BELOW!![masked]

This outing will be on Saturday, December 3rd, and we’ll be paddling from Kualoa Beach Park(Extreme north end of Kaneohe Bay) up the east side of the island inside the reef past beautiful Kaawa valley to Kahana Bay.  At the entrance of Kahana Bay, is an ancient fishpond where we'll take a break and learn some history of the area and the fishpond.

At Kaawa Valley, there is a great little surf spot where we can catch small to medium size waves, so it’ll be a good spot to spend a bit of time polishing up on all of our surf skills and having some fun.

So, as for trip details………………..

Kualoa Park To Kahana Valley, up Kahana River.   It's  6.1 miles to Kahana, about 1.5 miles up the stream and back for a total paddling distance of  7.6 miles.

We'll meet Saturday Morning, December 3rd, 8 AM at Kualoa Beach Park in the parking lot near the first restroom building.

Shuttle cars to Kahana will leave at 8:20 AM, and we’ll paddle away from the beach at 9 AM.  We should finish up at between noon and 1 PM.

This is a VERY scenic paddle with lots of interesting history, so I’ll look forward to seeing you all there!

Sorry I would love to join as a novice ocean kayaker. But I just realized that you meet on Saturdays when I'm at work. Perhaps one day if you meet on Sunday.

Good Morning paddlers. The weather radar is showing clear skies over Oahu and no rain clouds headed our way most like for the rest of the morning and early afternoon, so it looks like it's gonna be a great morning to do this paddle. Wish I was going to be joining you!!! Take lots of pics and post them to this site and I'll enjoy them after you're done!! Have a great paddle!!!!!

Hey Gang, I'll also be checking the weather and radar site tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM and will posta a note here regarding condition and whether we're a go or no-go for our paddle

One last detail - As some of you know, I had shoulder surgery on Oct. 25 and can't paddle till after the 6 week recovery period. So, David Brucas will again be leading this paddle. David has many years of kayaking experience, and has led groups of paddlers many times, and the route for this paddle is entirely inside the reef, so he has my full confidence that he can lead this outing and make good decisions that will keep the safety of our group as top priority. Hopefully, I'll be able to re-join you on our next outing on December 10.

OK Gang, hope you have a great outing tomorrow, and that the skys are blue and winds are low!!!

    Aloha,

Also, if you have a kayak rental reserved for the outing, you can pick it up this afternoon so you can head straight for the start point tomorrow morning, or, let us know if you want to pick it up in the morning. If some of you will be picking up in the morning, we'll bring in staff at 6:30 AM to help you then. That way, we'll get you loaded and leaving in time for you to arrive at Kualoa by 7:45 - 8:00 AM.

nto your browser. This is a weather radar site that shows a map of the Hawaiian Islands and any rain squalls or pockets of thunderstorms headed our way. You can even select an option that shows the movement of the rain squalls so you can see if it's coming straight at us or if it will pass us by. It would be a good idea to get on the site tonight and learn which items to click so you can see the storms progression as they approach.

Then, tomorrow morning, you can open the site and see what, if anything, is headed our way. You can even look at this site on your phone just before you leave the beach on the outing so you'll know if it's likely you'll get dumped on, or not, during the paddle. By doing this each of you can decide if you want to go on the paddle based on expected weather conditions at the moment.

    Aloha Paddlers!

AT LAST!!!!! WE GET A DAY WITH LIGHT WINDS IN THE FORECAST FOR OUR PADDLE TOMORROW!!!! .......................unfortunately, heavy rains "might" also happen.

So, it might be a perfect day for this paddle, or it might be monsoon rains pouring down. So, knowing this, here's how we'll approach tomorrow's paddle..... When you get up for the paddle tomorrow morning, before you load your kayak, or head out from your house, dopy and paste this web site:

    https://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=HMO&lat=0&lon=0&label=you&type=N0R&zoommode=pan&map.x=400&map.y=240&centerx=400&centery=240&prevzoom=zoom

    To be continued

Aloha Paddlers, I sent a message out to all members yesterday afternoon postponing this paddle due to high winds, but I see that it didn't get to my in box, so I'm assuming it probably didn't get out for some reason. If you didn't get the message, and showed up at the start point, I sincerely apologize that you didn't get it!!
