Good discussion, as always. However, the size and scope of this book could have used two discussions...too much for a few hours.

    To group members-------------
Regarding the discussion that has been going on recently, as Harriet mentioned , old classic books are good as are modern books. How many modern books have been read and discussed within the past year, and what were they.? I am a new member, Thanks in advance----

Hello everyone. My name is Gary Goldstein, and I just joined this group. I am the author of "Jew in Jail," as well as a motivational speaker on recovery from addiction. I am very interested in meeting fellow authors and readers!

A good book is a good book! It just becomes a book you don't want to put down. There is nothing wrong with that!
I love the classics and I'm involved in some meetups that revolve around them. Even though they are well written, not everyone will find them interesting.

That's the beauty of bouncing around in literary time, sampling works from a variety of eras without being locked into one time.

    I agree!

What is wrong with old books that are 400 pages? If it is a good book, it will always be a good book. I love to read classics and more modern books, as well.

Old or new a good book is a good book, but it is interesting to go back to the classics and recognize their impact on the modern.

I would like to read some more modern books ie DeLillo, Eggers. I'm tired of reading old books of 400 pages! Sorry I didn't suggest any this time -- too much going on.

Thank you for the restaurant suggestions. We're going to have Peruvian this time (since much of the book takes place in South America) but I'll keep them in mind for the future.

There is Ex-on on Austin Street near the continental theatre. There is a upstairs area and downstairs are to the restuarant. It used to be the Mardi Gras.
