The idea is to create a group to enjoy moments socializing and dancing. In England you can already dance Forró in London, Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford, Reading, Manchester, Birmingham and other cities. Now it is York time!

Brazilian Forró Dance Classes in York

Millers Yard

IMPORTANT: We have a new venue! Millers Yard. Expect to learn the basic steps followed by additional concepts and sequences in a friendly environment. 1 hour class, 30 minutes dance practice followed by social drinks in the next door pub beer garden. We have a beautiful studio at: Millers Yard 2 & 4 Millers Yard Gillygate York YO31 7EB Parking: There is limited free parking available at the venue with access through Gillygate main entrance. _______________________________ Cost: £2 Suggested voluntary contribution. _______________________________ During our regular lesson: Expect to learn the basic steps followed by additional concepts and sequences in a friendly environment. 1 hour class followed by dance practice. Forró is an informal dance and usually people dance in flat shoes. _______________________________ Where to go? Millers Yard studio. _______________________________ About Forró: Forró is a music style and partner dance originated in the Northeast of Brazil that has spread to all over Europe, with over 60 festivals the Forró community is well-established and further expanding. Forró is much more than just a close dance, it is about creative expression and interpersonal communication. In the UK, you can already find Forró classes and social evenings in London, Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford, Reading, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. Join us now in York and spread the joy of Forró. The music: Forró music traditionally consists of three instruments: the accordion (sanfona), the drum or zabumba and the triangle. The songs include rhythms such as Baião, Xaxado, Arrasta Pé, Xote. The dance: Forró is a partner dance where couples dance closely together. Traditionally the dance would be danced without many variations. However, in the early 2000's the dance spread in the universities of Brazil and since then influences and movements are continuously introduced.
