What we're about

Welcome to the Southwest Florida Spanish Language Meetup! We are excited you have joined us. Our Meetup's goal is to provide a comfortable and safe environment where one can come to practice Spanish.

We practice our language skills both online and in-person*. We normally meet 2-3 times per month, and in addition to language exchange, we share and enjoy each other's culture and ideas. We will sometimes plan excursions (movie, kayak trips, picnics) for those who live in Southwest Florida. Because we offer online meetups, please join us even if you live outside of Southwest Florida.

For beginners, we want to emphasize that we are a discussion-oriented group instead of a class, and while Spanish speakers of all levels are welcome, along with native Spanish speakers, we typically discuss topics at a level more appropriate for intermediate and advanced speakers.

We also have a companion website on the Mighty Networks platform, where we provide beginners helpful resources we have aggregated after many cumulative years of experience learning a new language. At most meetups, we also typically provide a worksheet to assist in the discussion and provide vocabulary words.

We want you to give us a try to see if we are the right place for you!

VIRTUAL EVENT - Let's talk about Doubt, Denial and Hope - using the subjunctive!

Hi everyone! Let’s get together virtually and practice our Spanish. For this particular discussion, we will use prompts that call for the subjunctive, so that everyone gets more used to using it. Things like, "I hope Tampa wins the Super Bowl". Espero que Tampa gane el Súper Bowl.

IN PERSON! - Bird Watching Walk en español!

Lakes Park

This year, the annual "Ding" Darling Day is being held in Lakes Park in Fort Myers. This family-centric event is intended to bring more awareness of the "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge to our local communities and a wider audience.

As part of the day's events, there is a "Caminata de Avistamiento de Aves". It will last 30 minutes.

We can meet at 9:30 AM in Lakes Park at the location where the guide will start the guided walk, and then we can spend some time chatting afterwards.
