Well, we closed out another successful season with only two rainouts in 16 games. We welcomed many new faces along with our steady base of regulars and even the stalwarts who have been with us from the beginning (nine years now!). The 2017 season opens Thursday, June 1, with possible pre-season games depending on weather and interest.
The Foulies originated years ago as a league softball team - known then as the Foul Balls (which is another story altogether). After making the playoffs, which was a minor miracle (we checked to see if Hell had frozen over) and wringing our hands about winning, we realized there was just too much pressure that interfered with more important things like socializing, beer drinking and just having a good time in the sunshine. Thus we decided to play weekly pick-up games with anybody welcome, no matter what their skill level. We have absolute beginners who have never played, up to more serious and skilled players. This creates a great mix and some surprisingly competitive games with good play. But the emphasis is truly on fun, meeting new people and enjoying summer/fall evenings.
We supply three of the four B's: Bats, Balls and Bases. Members supply the fourth B. If you need a glove, we have spares. And someone will happily loan you a glove when their side is up to bat.
We play evening games until late September, or whenever the weather and waning light chase us into hibernation. Post-game food/drinks at a local pub.
$5 per game donation (or $40 for the season) to help cover field costs, insurance, equipment, Meetup page fees etc.
