  • Adult Prom at Sudhouse DC

    Sudhouse DC

***WARNING*** THIS EVENT WILL SELL OUT SO BUY NOW BUY TICKETS HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/adult-prom-2nd-annual-mariposas-fundraiser-tickets-58952598810?aff=ebdssbdestsearch You are cordially invited to Adult Prom (aka Starry Night, Under the Sea, Y2K) on Friday, May 10th at 8:30 o'clock in the evening. This blast from the past event, full of gaudy dresses, old school hip hop, and awkward photos, will benefit Mariposas: Mujeres Cambiando el Mundo. What is Mariposas, you ask? Well, it is a super cool nonprofit that provides educational opportunities to young women from marginalized communities in Mexico. Just $1600 pays for an entire year of college for one of their scholarship recipients! Learn more about Mariposas here: http://www.mariposasmexico.org/. So bust out your prom dress (or tux), or buy one from Goodwill! Start working up the courage to ask that cool kid to be your date, and let's boogie down to raise some funds! Here are the deets: Where: Sudhouse DC; This is a great bar (21 and older, folks) right in the heart of DC on U St. We have the 3rd floor reserved for our event. Partying starts at 8:30pm and goes until closing. Your $20 ticket goes entirely to Mariposas: Mujeres Cambiando el Mundo(there's a small additional Eventbrite fee, but hey it's a small price to pay for a big night out). If we sell out, we'll have raised $1600, which is what it costs to send a girl to college for 1 year in Mexico! Sudhouse is donating 10% of our 3rd floor bar sales to Mariposas, so imbibing is encouraged (responsibly, of course). We have a hardworking team of 90's nostalgia musical gurus working to put together the best possible playlist so that we can get jiggy with it. It's rumored that singer-songwriter extraoridinaire, Annie Fritz, and her band might make an appearance. If you want to have a say in what Nelly songs go on that playlist, post on our Facebook event page here and we'll do our best to add it in. Our DC community is really stepping up, and we are going to have a great raffle for folks. Stay tuned for all the great wine, mezcal, yoga and other fab raffles we'll have to offer. And because it is prom, we'll be crowning a Prom Court and we'll provide space to take those gloriously awkward photos....you know what I'm talking about. So tell your friends, bring date, or come solo...just make sure to get your tickets pronto!
