Let's meet to play ukulele, sing, and have fun to start the new year.

We meet every Thursday, unless it falls on a holiday or our hosting venue is having a special event. Our hosting venue is the Eastgate Cafe in the Oak Park Arts District, who generously provides their dining room to us without a fee. We sing songs found in that week's song-packet. Food and beverages are available for purchase from our hosting venue.

The song-sheet packet for this meetup is Faves & Raves! Volume 3, and member Will contributed a song-sheet for Cluck Old Hen. If you are a member, you can download the current packet and song-sheet by bringing up the Song-sheet Packet for the Next Meetup page.  Click on the page name to go there now.

Hey, and what's better than walking into the Eastgate with one ukulele? Walking out with two of them! Thanks Marsha! And even better, we had a spare uke for our newest convert to use.

Hope you can sleep at night knowing that ukulele was originally calling out to me at the antique store. I snoozed and I loozed...

Cheryl - apologies if this hits twice - for some reason I have trouble with this site when I'm on a tablet or my phone - I just wanted you to know I will keep both you and your Mom in my prayers. Please don't forget to eat and sleep while your Mom is sick. Caregivers have to avoid making themselves sick, too. Please let us know how she's doing. T

Did you hear that collective groan?

      1 · January 3, 2014

Too bad the weather was so fowl....

Great way to end the day after shoveling snow about five times!

Despite the snow and cold, twenty hearty Free Rangers were warm and cozy and strumming at Eastgate! We had folks from as far away as Japan, and as close as across the street.
Dan brought us two fun folk songs, Erie Canal and Boil Them Cabbage Down, which I can't get out of my head (thanks, Dan). Alvin gave us a history lesson with the Battle of New Orleans.
And Marsha blew us all away with her wailin' harmonica!!!
Thanks to all the song leaders: Terry, Alvin, Brenda, BJ, Paul, Mark, David (am I forgetting anyone?)
...OK, Terry, I went to Petco, and they had no idea what I was talking about...
Thanks to all for making it an evening that was worth digging the car out of the snow bank for.

Substitute SNOW for Rain in Lennon/McCartney song and it somehow makes all the cold and snow disappear. Gives a warm and fuzzy feeling.

      Snooooooooow... I don't mind.

Thank you to the hearty few who braved the elements to be there last night. Although it was an intimate gathering compared to what has been the typical attendance, it was no less fun.

Thank you to all the participants; your enthusiasm gives us organizers encouragement, your feedback helps us to find ways to improve future meetups, and by extending the courtesy of ordering something from our venue, you're helping us to keep our happy home.

If you haven't done so already, please take a few minutes to share your comments here or on the Group Reviews page (http://bit.ly/1j9CUO6).

If you're a member, feel free to read the current financial report: http://bit.ly/1evlLxi Thank you to all who could afford to make a donation.

Since we have more than 4 inches of snow, don't forget to park on the even-numbered (east) side of the street today.
