What we're about

"Lively, fresh, thought-providing discussion learning and exploring ideas in a relaxed atmosphere"

We'd love you to join us for two-hour evening talks by Greg Mackenzie: NHS & Private Psychotherapist with 15 years clinical experience. These talks are for anyone interested in deepening their appreciation of films and stories, interested in psychology or interesting in exploring why we do what we do in relationships. These are part of a series of talks and well-being events brought to you by Psychologists from MW Conversations. Our aim? - to bring to life latest psychological theory and research, and it make it useful to daily life! We aim to do this through the use of film, stories, art and conversations.

This is not a a therapy group. We will not be exploring people’s personal circumstances. This is rather an opportunity to play around with ideas in a creative setting.

We believe art and psychology have an incredible overlap of wisdom and insight. In addition, groups of people often allow for multiple truths and perspectives which can stretch our understandings and shape new avenues of adventure.

Come join the conversation!!

Psychology at the movies: exploring wisdoms through stories

The museum of Harlow, Muskham road, CM20 2LS

£2.70

We'd love you to join us for two-hour evening talks hosted by Greg Mackenzie: NHS & Private Psychotherapist with 15 years experience. These talks for anyone interested in deepening their appreciation of films and stories, interested in psychology and interested in exploring why people do what they do interpersonally. In 2018 we talked about a series of fantastic films through the lens of two psychological theories: Compassion-based theory and Mentalisation. We are starting 2019 exploring classic fairytales through the lens of Psychodynamic thinking and Symbolism. No prior knowledge or experience of psychology needed- our job is to make psychology make sense and useful to all. Why do we act in ways which just do not seem to make sense, and have the potential to sabotage what we most want? Why do we rupture relationships? How to repair relationships? How do people move forward from challenging circumstances? These are among the questions we've explored so far. Story telling has such a rich history of communicating wisdoms, we are excited to share new and old ideas through conversations. The next talk on Wednesday 20th February is based around the story ‘Red Riding Hood’: I intend to bring to life psychology theories and share wisdoms that are passed on through this classic story. This will include looking at different psychological approaches to 2018 including how symbols may be being used, and some psychodynamic ideas. A little different format to before: no need to watch anything ahead of the session, I will be playing a few brief clips within the talk. However, if you want to get your mind thinking ahead of time, we’d invite you to have a wee look at any images or stories of Red Riding Hood. We will announce closer to the time the story being discussed on Wednesday March 27th. Tickets are just the cost of the cappuccino: £2.70 if brought in advance. We are keen to continue to run events at a low-cost to try and ‘give away’ psychology: your support in getting the word out there is much appreciated. As most of you know, we have little time to give to marketing, and our marketing know-how is requiring a sharp learning curve!! £2.70 Tickets for 20th Feb & 27th March from: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/mwconversations-ltd-17099644453 Free parking outside. As you also probably know by now, I have been offering psychotherapy for 15 years, 10 of which within the NHS: we hope this represents an affordable way to deepen your understanding about psychology and learn from the wisdoms stories and films have to offer us. We are passionate about making evidence-based psychological knowledge accessible and relevant to the dilemmas of our daily lives. Mackenzie White Conversations also offer Well-being & Mindful Eating Courses, Sexual Well-being talks and other psychologically-informed talks: to stay updated email us on [masked] to be added to our mailing list and/ or 'follow' us on facebook at Mackenzie White Conversations. We offer private individual therapy, private couples therapy and professional supervision; contact us directly on [masked], greg@mwconversations or[masked], or look us up on mwconversations.co.uk. Thank you to Harlow Museum & Walled Gardens for supporting us and hosting us so wonderfully. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/mwconversations-ltd-17099644453
