Announcing a new Meetup for Fremont Digital Photo Freeschool!

What: Balancing Flash with Ambient Lighting DAYTIME

When: Wednesday, September 8,[masked]:00 PM

Where: LensVisions Studio
37408 Joseph St.
Fremont, CA 94536
[masked]

ATTENTION: THIS IS A DAYTIME SESSION OF THE SAME TOPIC GIVEN THE PREVIOUS EVENING, 9/7.

"Flash" is easy to define: it's the light burst that the photographer causes when taking a picture. In might come from a flash built into the camera, or an accessory flash triggered by the camera.
Ambient light is not quite so easily understood. It's the light that exists in the scene, and is usually not controlled by the photographer. Intensity, color, direction, and quality may be difficult or impossible to modify.
When should a photographer mix the two? How should they be mixed? Should one or the other dominate the resulting photo? If not, what problems arise when balancing the the two sources, sometimes extremely different in color and intensity?

Let's take a test drive through this balancing act with lots of examples and some filters for flash units.
