In this monthly rhythmic event, we will be exploring drums, other percussion instruments, and the breath of life (voices and native flutes) to explore our connections to our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves and to each other. Elementary, universal principles of drumming (called the ABCs of drumming) will be presented at the beginning of each session. Then we will continue to expand our connections to ourselves and each other through rhythmic games and exercises, drumming world rhythms together – in unison, in multiple parts, and with other instruments – and creating soundscapes. The secret (actually well-known) is to relax, listen, join in, then fit in. Each session will close with an open “drum jam.” No musical experience or self-perceived talent is necessary for these sessions. An assortment of drums and other instruments will be provided, and you are very welcome to bring your own.
