What we're about

Howdy! I'm looking to form a small group of like-minded writers who are serious about reading, writing, critiquing, and getting published.

I have an MFA in Creative Writing, but a commitment to reading and critiquing is the most important thing.

Ideally: You read all the time from a variety of genres. You are familiar with some of the literary journals and magazines. You know that a good critique isn't about active vs. passive voice or worrying about a sentence fragment.

Me: I write all sorts of things in a variety of genres, including memoir and science fiction; however, I mostly write literary fiction (often with some surreal moments).

Some contemporary authors I enjoy:
Carmen Maria Machado
Yoko Ogawa
Haruki Murakami
Tobias Wolff

Some classic authors:
Edith Wharton
Flannery O'Connor
James Baldwin (Sonny's Blues* -- the short story to end all short stories.)

Some books I recently enjoyed:
Exit West
The Dog Stars
Pachinko
Chronicle of a Death Foretold
Bluets
We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves

I'd love for us to meet twice a month and exchange critiques. (Fridays just happened to be the one day where I didn't have work or a class.) I'm thinking 6 p.m. so that if you have plans to go out, we can get the critiquing done and the night is still young. I can't offer a home space--my apartment is small. I figured we'd meet up in a public location, to be disclosed once you join.

If interested, send me an email, a sample of your work, and tell me a little about how you approach critiques.

Writing can be a lonely business. Let's cheer each other on!
