"Spooks, Scandals, and Scoundrels of Greenwich Village" returns for 2013!

One of our favorite tours returns for the new touring season!

Join us on this light-hearted tour that highlights stories of Village hauntings and scandals involving prominent New Yorkers over the past two centuries. Find out about the surprising ghosts that haunt Greenwich Village, plus dastardly acts associated with the jaunty Jimmy Walker, libidinous Stanford White, and infamous Aaron Burr. And what supernaturally-inclined tour could fail to include a nod to the macabre Edgar Allan Poe?

Where to meet: Meet at the southeast corner of Washington Square West (Macdougal Street) and Washington Square North (Waverly Place), just intside of Washington Square Park by the chess tables. Take the R to "8 Street" or A,C,E, B, D, F to "West 4 Street".

When to meet: 4:45 for a 5pm start. I will be holding a sign that reads, "Spooks, Scandals, and Scoundrels"

Fee: $15 cash, exact change appreciated!

The tour will be approximately 2/2.5 hours long. While Friendly Native tours walk rain or shine 99.9% of the time, on rare occasions they will be postponed in cases of what can be deemed dangerous weather, and an email sent out to that effect to all who have registered for the event.   Check the weather reports on the day of the tour; if there is a chance of rain, please bring your own umbrella.

The nearest restrooms to this location are the restaurants on 8th Street, like Au Bon Pain and Chipotle; and the Starbuck's near the corner of Waverly Place and 6th Avenue. Please be sure to "take care of things" before the start of the tour!

Oh my goodness. Just when you think Linda cannot be outdone-she out did herself! If you want to learn about New York or for that matter spend an afternoon with an affable, warm, intelligent person which Linda is--then this group is for you.

Very interesting tour. Love learning how people lived in the city way back when. I always walk away learning something new. My feet wanted to bail - but couldn't didn't want to miss anything. In search of better walking shoes. LOL

    Had a great time!

It was fun. A bit exhausting after St. Luke's place...but fascinating tidbits of apocrypha and history...

Now ...looked up that word... BTW I went to a Sunday Morning Service at Marble Collegiate and St Luke's was commended for their good works in the GLBT community. I just thought it was a beautiful church with wonderful grounds..........

Earlier talk of rain evaporated as the time of our tour shone bright with summer sun. A goodly number of tour vets came out to see the ghosts in Anna, Debbie, Dee, Donna, Howard, Phyllis, Tanya, Tony, Richard, Irene, Jen, and Chelsea, while we welcomed newer Friendly Walkers in Shao, Tracie, Vicki, Krismyn, Lorraine, Nicole, Elaine, Tom, and Mrs. Richard, whose name has for the moment eluded me. A few of us repaired to a nearby though noisy Five Guys to swap more stories. Good time!

This is my second ghost tour with Linda. Either I forget or much of it is new.Love the stories of famous and infamous residents physically gone who haunt these wonderful bldgs... architecturally superb in some of the most elegant areas of the west village. Wonderful stories as only Linda can tell them...with photographs of these colorful people who help to make the city so adventurous.

This sounds like fun. Love historical walking tours, and especially like the idea of the supernatural bent on this one!
