     Great too.

Since I have never been to a dig before it is hard for me to evaluate it. The people are very friendly, instructions for me as a newbie was rather minimal. I could have used more on the "how to".

I love getting away from routine and out into the desert, enjoy meeting new people - we have so much diversity in interests apart from archaeology. I always learn something. To answer John's question - vitrify means to convert into glass or a glassy substance by fusion. Obsidian is vitreous. I'll show you some at the site when you come.

I would recommend going, if not for the site but for the great people, funny stories and Chris's great chille :)

It was fun and interesting. Even better when I found what very well was the workings of an early man. I am so going back.

The people were the best. Since we brought our 2 youngs boys (6 and 4) I wasn't sure how long they would last but they were never bored. The staff, in particular, are very personable and knowledge able and were great with the kids. I love that they have an educational program for the younger ones. My older son is really into archaeology and palentology right now and the staff was very helpful in answering his many questions. Personally I learned more than I imagined. The group as a whole was fun to be with. It was easy to converse with others and we even met a family that we will continue to stay in contact with. Everyone should do the Dig at least once. :)

The groupt is awesome and the leaders (David and Claude) were exceptional and friendly and some of the nicest people. Had a great time getting to know them.

"I am impressed with the progress in the past five years. I attribute this to excellent leadership and good management accountability. It is wonderful to renew old friendships and I heartily welcome the new members. Safety first, from, to and on-site."

The Calico Dig is a relaxing getaway with interesting people of all ages and backgrounds. You will have fun digging in the dirt , surveying the ground for artifacts, sitting around the bonfire looking at the stars in the clear desert sky, or having potluck dinner while learning from lectures about archaeology and geology. It's in desert terrain only minutes from the interstate, rough but with easy access. All while doing real science with a purpose - to prove the history of humanity.

I'm sad I'm leaving for school and won't be able to do this again for a long time...

This group is great for anyone who wants experience in archaeology without paying or taking a college class.

It's a great learning experience- even if you DON'T dig! The knowledge that is floating around out there is impressive. Most of the people have 20-30 years experience at this site. Then there are the 'visitors' that drop by! Wow, you get a Ph.D. level education for the price of the trip!
