Butterfly Walk in Marian Bear Park - July 12th

The Tecolote Canyon Interpretive Group will be leading a butterfly walk in Marian Bear Park on Saturday, July 12th at 9am. The eastern portion of Marian Bear Park is frequented by a number of colorful butterfly species during the summer months. On a sunny summer day it is not unusual to see Morning Cloaks, Lorquin's Admirals, and various species of swallowtails flying about. California Sisters, Common Buckeye, and "urban butterflies" such as Cabbage Whites, Sulphurs, Gulf Frittilaries, and Monarchs can also be seen. Come have fun learning more about these beautiful creatures as well as the various habitats that draw them to Marian Bear Park. The Butterfly Walk will begin at the Cobb trailhead where Cobb Drive meets Cobb Place in North Clairemont. Please note there are no facilities at this location. A pair of binoculars and good walking shoes are recommended. For more information contact Marla the Tecolote Canyon Nature Center Director at[masked]

Another great nature walk through the Friends of Tecolote Canyon Meetup group. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and we even got a send off from a Coronis Fritillary (Speyeria coronis semiramis...the one in the picture by Kathleen) as we left the canyon. I've been on a number of walks led by Trent and he always does a great job. I always come away having learned something new.

Thanks Trent for leading the group on our Butterfly Walk in Marian Bear Park. It was a lovely day and we did "see" some beauties, though from a distance. I hope we plan another walk next year, same location, same theme!

Thanks other Kathleen for taking the group pic and figuring out how to post it! (pretty easy, huh?) Nice to meet everyone and hang out, even though I don't know the rest of your names! I think it is the third time I have gone on one of these canyon discovery walks. Thanks for having the meetup groups!

Great walk and what a perfect morning. I enjoyed meeting everyone and being my first time with this group I felt welcomed...
