This group is for folks who love the views, wildlife, wildflowers, nature walks, conservation projects and/or just hiking on the Modini Mayacamas Preserves, near Healdsburg. The Preserves span from 400' – 2,800' elevation, making it unique among protected areas. We look forward to exploring these wild lands with you through the seasons and years, and we hope you’ll join our corps of local volunteers to help us protect the habitats and wild creatures that call this region home.
Access to the Preserves is by guided hiking programs or by permit ONLY, but you are welcome any time to enjoy birding and views from the pullouts along Pine Flat Road, which climbs a steep ridge through the length of the Preserves.
Please drive slowly and carefully - this is a rough, narrow, windy, one-lane country road with occasional blind curves. The road is also very popular with bicyclists (and some hikers too), so please use extra caution.
There are no facilities, no restrooms, no restaurants, no drinking water; please come prepared for steep, wild terrain.
The Modini Mayacamas Preserves are owned and managed by Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations to fund its programs. ACR was formed in 1962 to protect the Bolinas Lagoon from development. Today, ACR acts as guardian of a system of nature preserves spanning 26 properties in Marin, Sonoma and Lake counties. These 5,000 acres provide significant habitat to wildlife and have been placed in ACR's care by generous donors to steward and protect in perpetuity.
