Group Description

Are you ready to place friendships as a top priority in your life? Do you feel like it's harder to make friendships these days and long for a "tribe" of close-knit girlfriends you can feel connected to, seen, and heard? What about your current friendships? Do you find yourself growing apart from your current friends and wish to repair what you have OR Do you need help identifying whether to move in a different direction? What if your friendships (old or new) could (re)start from a healthy foundation?
In six weeks, you will learn how to create and grow healthy friendships, learn how to repair current friendships, understand the natural flow of friendships and why some from your past may not have thrived, learn how to determine "toxic" relationships from healthy ones, and to determine which friendships may no longer be serving you.
Healthy friendships are essential to life! The more technology advances, the lonelier our society becomes. Loneliness is a huge factor on our health. Research show that prolonged loneliness is equivalent to smoking 5 cigarettes a day or being a lifelong alcoholic. It is terribly hazardous to our health. I don't know about you, but for me...that's simply not acceptable. Busyness is no longer an excuse to keep me from connecting to others in this world. We are meant for something bigger than sitting behind our computers or phones for "connection".

This group is for COMMITTED women, ages 35-55 seeking platonic, close knit female friendships. The group will meet WEEKLY for six weeks based on the book "Friendships Don't Just Happen" (more info below). Connections are left to flourish on their own from there. A FULL 6 WEEK COMMITMENT IS REQUIRED due to the importance of the bonding book discussions and time for connection with other members. The classes are $5 each per person which cover copies, supplies, location fees and meetup fees for the six week group. THE FRIENDSHIP FIRE GROUP WILL BE CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS AFTER THE FIRST 14 JOIN MEETING #1. If you miss the start of this group, keep watch for the new group (under the same name) to reopen after this one is complete in 7-8 weeks time.

-A FULL 6 WEEK COMMITMENT. It is recommended to start reading the book prior to the start of the first meeting to the point you are able. The reading is approximately 70 pages (approx. 1.5-2 hours) a week, which can sometimes be challenging to finish with a full-time job and family. Allowing yourself some wiggle room, will help you be a full participant by finishing the book in its entirety.
-BE OF SOUND MENTAL HEALTH. Support is a large part of this group. That being said, this is not a mental health support group ran by a mental health professional. If you have been diagnosed with a severe mental illness, are currently dealing with addiction or recovery, are currently under the care of a psychiatrist, have had major emotional trauma that you are still healing from, are under current medication adjustments for mental health issues, or saw this as "the" group to join based on recommendations from a psychotherapist, we are not adequately equipped to deal with persons requiring professional help. Please seek out other modalities at this time. **Organizer holds the right to remove members from the group if it appears to be in the best interest of, not only the person involved, but the group as a whole.
-PURCHASE OF BOOK "FRIENDSHIPS DON'T JUST HAPPEN" BY SHASTA NELSON IN ANY VERSION (AUDIO, PAPERBACK, KINDLE, etc). Be aware that the audio and Kindle versions of the book are not aligned with page numbers and chapters of the paperback book which may make it more difficult to follow along in the group.
-A $5 payment per class
The educational foundation of this group is based on the book called Friendships Just Don't Happen by Shasta Nelson (see the description of the author below). The group is only 6 weeks in length. Therefore, it is mandatory that all participants make a commitment to attending the full 6 weeks. Each participant is expected to have the assigned chapters read before each meeting. Please bring the book (if you have the paperback version) and a finger food or beverage to share at each meeting (except the first meeting).
