Friendship Force of the San Francisco Bay Area (FFSFBA) provides opportunities to explore new cultures by staying in the homes of Friendship Force families all over the world. We share meals, conversation and the routines of daily life, creating a unique cultural encounter and lasting friendships.
Our club currently has approximately 70 members, living all over the greater SF Bay Area. We are a member club of Friendship Force International, world-wide non-profit organization founded in 1977 for the purpose of experiencing countries and cultures different from ours and promoting world peace. There are 613 clubs in 60 countries.
Locally, we hold regular meetings, including a World Friendship Day celebration, luncheons, happy hours, events with speakers, and local tours. Many of these events acquaint us with the cultures of the clubs we are hosting or visiting.
Once or twice a year we host guests from other countries or from other areas of the U.S. We arrange parties and tours for our guests, and many of our local members participate in the events. Volunteer home hosts provide a place to stay for the guests. We also arrange dinners or pot lucks for small groups so that more members can participate.
Also once or twice a year we serve as ambassadors to other countries. We stay as guests in someone's home, and experience the daily lives of the local area as well as tour their local communities and experience their cultural activities. We travel as a group and are hosted by a local club of Friendship Force International. Usually there is an optional tour before or after the home stay.
