More Blues, & Grooves with Deborah Stafford and State of Affairs @ Nissis

If you are looking to dance to some excellent blues - the Deb Stafford band is playing down at Nissis in Lafayette on Wed May May 18th.

I've been to the new Nissis venue several times now. The dance floor is huge and the best part of all "Tonight is another free night" which mean tables are open at no charge. They have great food and drink so come join me for a couple hours of blues dancing.

Doors open at 630pm - i will get there earlier to get in line around 610pm and get a table - but i won't be able to hold two tables. The show starts at 730pm - and if Friday night was any indication - this place will be packed - so the earlier the better.

I'm easy to spot at 6'3, blk hair and glasses - I'll try to get a table near the dance floor about center.

I always try to make the Deb Stafford shows because they are awesome.

Deborah Stafford & The State of Affairs play the ‘Best of Blues’. Dance-able Funky, Traditional Blues and Americana. Winners of Mile High Blues Soc. Blues Challenge, nominated for 3 Members Choice Awards by Colorado Blues Society, including favorite band

Come party with us and dance to the Whiskey Pickles. They are a great, upbeat blues dancing band and we always have a blast! Lirano’s has a full bar and upscale bar menu. It’s a friendly, cozy place with a small but nice dance floor. Let’s grab the long table in the back! I’ll reserve it. (Lirano’s is on the EAST side of the building.)

Dance Lessons: Slow Blues Dance (lead follow)

Needs a location

Every once in a while you hear a slow, heartfelt song that makes you want to dance. Blues, soul, R&B & some forms of jazz music are good examples. A good, connected (with a partner) dance can be the highlight of a music and social dance experience.

Grace and I are teaching a 3-week progressive slow blues dance series this summer. Due to our travel schedule this will likely be the only lessons in northern Colorado in 2022. This lead-follow slow blues series will teach the following:

  • How to get yourself to actually slow down
  • Various connections for slow blues
  • The micro to major body movements
  • Adapting and interpreting to each song
  • Adding playfulness to each song

PLEASE READ: This lesson series is for the dancer with some social dance experience or have had a beginning blues dance lesson.
Our blues dance lessons are always organized to have an equal lead-to-follower ratio (we do this so dancers do not have to stand around). For this reason, we limit our class sizes. Sign up for yourself however if you have a dance partner simply add a "+1". Please do not wear "chemical" scents or fixatives, some have severe allergies. The Empire Grange does it's best to remain a "chemical free" studio.

If you see that you are placed on a "waitlist", please be patient as I will add you into the class as another dancer signs up thereby balancing the class ratio. If you sign up with a partner you will be immediately assigned to the lessons (you do not have to dance exclusively during the lessons). You are signing up for 3 consecutive weeks of lessons. Payable at the lesson in cash, check. Sorry, no drop ins.
