#FrontEndParty Edition 2

  • This location is shown only to members

CSS3, HTML5, SASS, LESS, Knockout, Ember, Angular, D3, flat / responsive design…are you finding it tough to figure out what's what in the ever changing landscape of front-end development? Or perhaps just interested to see what cool stuff people are doing with all these new tools at their disposal?

Welcome to FrontEndParty, the first NOLA front-end developer / designer meetup group. On the last Thursday of each month, we host three presentations (between 5 to 15 minutes each) on the front-end world from developers and designers around New Orleans.

For our next meetup, on March 28th and sponsored in part by Skuba Design Studio, we'll have these talks lined up:

Beau Button

Co-founder / Developer @ Webdevrs & Archon

Beau will present on tips to simplifying UI component communication by using a pub/sub messaging strategy with Amplify.js.

Scott Hedrick

CEO / Co-founder @ 3rd Floor Labs

Scott's talk will focus on self scaling UI in iOS, particularly around creating helper methods to scale components based on content size and rearranging views efficiently.

Jay Casteel

Lead Developer @ Skuba

Jay will go over custom map solutions like TileMill, CartoCSS and Leaflet.js, covering front-end styling, data import sources/techniques and a short demo to bring it all together.

Meetups start at around 7:00pm at The Dojo ( in the Exchange Centre at 935 Gravier Street, Suite 1650 (go to the 16th floor and look for the Ninja on the door).  These details and more can be found at

Look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks to everyone for coming and to Joe & Brian for letting Skuba get involved in their great community meetup group. There was a lot more I wanted to cover regarding maps, so if you have any questions or just want to say hi, feel free to reach out to me at [masked]. A few people asked me for the slides so I've made them available here: I'm looking forward to launching our current project featuring the map styling techniques we discussed, coming May 11th, look for it then. Great to meet everyone, looking forward to the next one!

I'm not sure if I should see that as threatening or endearing...I'm going to go with a little bit of both :)

I will give Beau $10 if his presentation is entirely free of profanities.

Really excited to talk about this subject. We've been working on a few pretty cool map projects and discovered some really great tips, tricks and techniques that I can't wait to share with everyone. Here's a teaser:
