What we're about

Hello and Welcome to The Metro Detroit Fun & Fitness meetup site. This site is owned by the GM Ski Club. For those who are unfamiliar with us we are more than just a ski club and we are not affiliated with General Motors (long story). We are simply a dynamic eclectic social club. We use this site to reach out to active folks like you, let you know what we have going on and invite you to participate in any of our events. Although some events have discounted prices for members of the GM Ski Club, you don't have to be a member of the club to participate. You can learn more about the GM Ski Club by visiting our website at:

We hope to see you soon at our upcoming events. Enjoy fitness activities like Wallyball (winter), Volleyball (summer), Cross Country Skiing, Ping Pong, Bocci Ball, Biking, etc , laugh and have fun while at it. When weather permits outdoor games like Sand Volleyball is also planned. We have biking too... not so light fitness but fun fitness...riding several different trails located throughout the Detroit Metro area. For just plain fun, there's concerts, eating out, or just meet'n'greet events.

If you are tired of the old gym routine, or just from being a couch potato, try us out. Burn some calorie

THURSDAY Hike(1-27) at River Bends Park at 11:00am

River Bends Park

Join me for a midweek hike at River Bends Park this Thursday. Meet in the Hickory Grove parking lot off 22 Mile Rd, between Ryan and Shelby Rds, by 11am. Hike starts at 11:10. We'll hike 5-5.5 miles. The trails will likely be snow-covered. Bring traction devices in case the trails are icy.
There will be an optional restaurant stop after the hike at Ken's Cozy Cafe, 50640 Van Dyke, 48317. It is located in a strip mall just south of 23 Mile on the east side (~5 min from the park).

Pub & Grub Shelby Firehouse Tavern

Shelby Firehouse Tavern

This event is limited to 20 people. While we don't want to be hard nosed, last minute cancellations and outright no-shows are getting to be a problem.

Please do not RSVP until you are sure you will come. Simply holding a spot until you decide whether you're coming or not is not fair to people who end up on the wait list. And if you RSVP and then decide you can't come, do not wait until the last minute. People who do that will be counted as a "no-show".

The Firehouse tavern located at the address shown has great reviews and a private party room in the back. The Manager has committed to showing us a very capable serving staff and will accommodate our group. They have excellent reviews and I have experienced excellent food when I visited them. Yes, we need a warm place during the heart of this winter. It will be very warm while in the Firehouse! LOL.

Please keep in mind; restaurants are still having staffing shortages. Therefore, when ordering, getting your drinks/food served, and receiving/paying your bill can or will take longer. **Please be patient**. Management is being gracious, by allowing us to book our size group. They want to provide good service, and make our evening an enjoyable one.

Please keep your RSVP update to be fair to the Organizer, members on the Waitlist, and management of the restaurant.

NOTE: Changing your RSVP to NOT GOING - NEEDS TO BE DONE AT LEAST 2 Full Days prior to the event). We need to provide accurate numbers to the venue early enough that they can plan. Changing your RSVP to NOT GOING less than two days before the event does not help us and will be counted as a NO SHOW.

Bowling Party in Rochester Hills

Avon North Hill Lanes

2 games of bowling for $8.50. Additional games are $2.50. Shoe rentals are $3.50. Pay the Center between 7:15 to 7:25. Do not arrive before 7:10 pm, since an afternoon group will be leaving then. We will bowl 4 or 5 people per Lane (9 Lanes reserved). After bowling, members may go to a nearby bar, such as Hamlin Pub - North, or R J's Pub, which are both within two blocks of Avon North Hill Lanes on Tienken Road.
You must be fully vaccinated to attend (including booster shot).
Note: cancellations inside 24 hours of the event (other than for extreme weather, illness or positive Covid test) are highly discouraged.
If you are bringing a guest, they should RSVP separately and indicate they will be bowling with you.

Paved Trail Hike Through The Woods

North Clinton River Park

We will meet at North Clinton River Park and hike the paved wooded trail. It is a very scenic hike along the Clinton River. We can hike to Dodge Park, take a break, and hike back. The entire round trip is less than four miles and should take about 2 hours.

To get to North Clinton River Park, take Van Dyke to Riverland drive (2nd light north of 19 mile rd). Go East on Riverland Drive (this is the only option). Entrance to the park will be on the right (south side) side of Riverland Drive. We'll meet at the end of the parking lot at 1:00.

It will be chilly, so be sure and dress for it.

If the weather is bad, this event may be CANCELLED. So in case of questionable weather, check back.
