What we're about

Hello and Welcome to The Metro Detroit Fun & Fitness meetup site. This site is owned by the GM Ski Club. For those who are unfamiliar with us we are more than just a ski club and we are not affiliated with General Motors (long story). We are simply a dynamic eclectic social club. We use this site to reach out to active folks like you, let you know what we have going on and invite you to participate in any of our events. Although some events have discounted prices for members of the GM Ski Club, you don't have to be a member of the club to participate. You can learn more about the GM Ski Club by visiting our website at:

We hope to see you soon at our upcoming events. Enjoy fitness activities like Wallyball (winter), Volleyball (summer), Cross Country Skiing, Ping Pong, Bocci Ball, Biking, etc , laugh and have fun while at it. When weather permits outdoor games like Sand Volleyball is also planned. We have biking too... not so light fitness but fun fitness...riding several different trails located throughout the Detroit Metro area. For just plain fun, there's concerts, eating out, or just meet'n'greet events.

If you are tired of the old gym routine, or just from being a couch potato, try us out. Burn some calorie

Fall Colors Canoe weekend: Camp or Hotel - Roll Your Own

PaddleBrave Camp and Canoe

comfortably. This is a "roll your own" weekend. You are responsible for reserving your boat with Paddle Brave and making you own Accommodations if you choose not We will use Paddle Brave Camp and Canoe Livery for an exciting early fall paddle down the Au Sable River in the Grayling area. You have your choice of accommodations. You can camp with the group at the livery, or arrange your own lodging. I am suggesting the Ramada in in Grayling but feel free to choose your own. For Friday night gathering, and Saturday Apres-Paddle, the goal is to gather in the campground for a fire, food, and libations. If the weather is in-climate we could use the Ramada Inn Hotel Bar for gathering. So we have options. For now I need to know the following: 1) Who is interested in coming? 2) Who wants to camp? So I can reserve sufficient campsites. All campsites are forested and electrical lines are installed underground. 3) If you plan to make your own accommodations, it would be helpful to know if you plan to use the Ramada Inn. 4) Nothing is supplied in terms of meals so everyone is on their own for that. However, for the campers, I may have some coffee and rolls on hand. Others are welcome to bring something to pass. Nearby restaurants are also a possibility. Please RSVP if you are interested, and message me on meetup with your accommodation interest. The canoe schedule is: 1) 11:00 Depart Paddlebrave for shuttle upstream. 2) Paddle back to campground and take a break. This is roughly a two hour paddle but we are not held to a time schedule. 3) Optional 1 hour paddle further downstream and shuttled back to campground. Pricing (2hour/3hour): Single Kayaks - $18/$25 Double Kayaks & Canoe ($27/$32) Call Paddle Brave (989)[masked] to reserve your boat. I recommend choosing the 2 hour option. You can add the 3rd hour at the last minute. Accommodation at the Ramada Inn. SPECIAL PRICING FOR THE GM Ski Club. Call this special number (989)[masked] ask for Jennifer. She is the General Manager and will give you 20% off any room you want and an additional 10% for seniors. I don't know if they make you prove you're a senior. Camping: PAYMENT IS DUE by TUESDAY SEPT 29. I will return unsold sites to the campground after that. I have four sites reserved and will put two people per site. I have sites for eight people (two shelters per site). I recommend paying early to save your site. When they're gone they're gone. The cost for two nights is $24 per person. You can pay ahead of time on paypal or send me a check made payable to Darrell Ahlberg 40377 Kraft Dr. Sterling Heights, MI.
