This month's topic is all about VR and learning. We have two very fun, engaging, and knowledgeable speakers to share with us their work in using VR for learning.

Talk #1: Using VR/AR and AI to Develop Language Fluency
Speaker: Lee Brighton

Lee Brighton runs a female led advanced tech team developing an AI/VR language fluency platform to help learners cross over from words to conversations helped by smart technology. Lee is the CSO & Founder of Virtro Entertainment ( Named on the 2018 Ready To Rocket list, Virtro Entertainment is a leader in AI & XR/VR development. In the EdTech space, Lee has been instrumental in developing a game changing language learning systems which empower fluency in learners.

Talk #2: Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality in Education: Thoughts and Prayers
Speaker: Dr. Ray Hsu

if you've heard about AR/VR, then you've probably also heard about the utopian promise it holds for education: with the help of this new technology, the story goes, we can leverage interactivity in order to dramatically improve learner engagement and attain heights of learning outcomes that we've not previously known. Dr. Ray Hsu (past Faculty Supervisor for the UBC Emerging Media Lab) tackles this utopian promise and dives into to the material conditions of learner engagement with AR/VR and how they align with learner motivations in order to answer these ultimate questions:

How much should we believe in this utopian promise? How much should we invest in it?
