• Flutter Study Jam (#2 of 3) – Recap of session 1 plus 2nd half of Udacity course
This will be a collaborative study group focused on Flutter, specifically, stepping through the two halves of the “Build Native Mobile Apps with Flutter” course from Udacity. No prior experience required but you will be contacted with information to get your personal computer set up for success. There will be three sessions total with the last session being a showcase of something you have built with Flutter or discussion of Flutter topics that would benefit from a group environment. We will also replay some of the December 4th Flutter Live 2018 event from London. This study jam will be led by David Baron, a 34-year veteran of software development, starting with client-server systems on the original Mac 128, and currently working on enterprise-wide web apps for one of the country’s largest defense and technology companies. For his private endeavors, and as a lover of software and tools, he would like to settle on a single tool that will allow him to build native apps for both mobile platforms, without compromise, and with enough ‘charm’ to make the whole process enjoyable. Flutter may just be that tool. Flutter is Google’s mobile app SDK for crafting high-quality native interfaces on iOS and Android in record time. Flutter works with existing code, is used by developers and organizations around the world, and is free and open source. Want to get started on building Flutter apps? Join us for our Flutter Study Jam! Together we'll work through Flutter Udacity Course prepared by Google instructors. You will be able to get hands-on experience with Flutter and build a Flutter app while learning the fundamentals.. Bring a laptop! The course will run on all of the latest versions of the popular browsers. For the best experience, the laptop should have Flutter installed on it prior to starting the study jam to save time. Windows/Linux/Mac would all be fine. Check out : https://flutter.io/get-started/install/

  • Machine Learning with TensorFlow by Googler David Chandler
David last spoke to our group in June 2016 and he was fantastic! We are excited to have him back to speak about ... Introduction to Machine Learning with TensorFlow Machine learning is hot (again) and it's never been easier. We'll look at some ML concepts for beginners, illustrate them with a powerful browser-based tool, show you how to get started with open source TensorFlow, and learn how to scale up training to larger datasets using Cloud ML Engine. All in an hour and a half, or something like that :-) David fell in love with programming at age 14 on his TI-99/4A, studied electrical engineering at the University of Kansas, and soon after wrote the first published book on Web servers (Running a Perfect Web Site, 1995). He has worked on software for everything from airborne GPS receivers to Internet banking. Now in his second term at Google, he trains Google Cloud partners and customers on big data and machine learning with BigQuery, Dataflow, Tensorflow, and Cloud ML Engine. Chandler holds both Google Cloud Professional certifications: Cloud Architect and Data Engineer.

  • I'm so done with E2E testing... until now.
**** Schedule **** 5:45 - Doors 6:00 - Food and Networking 6:30 - Announcements 6:35 - Presentation 7:30 - Wrap-up 8:00 - Drinks, networking, and conversation at Black Shirt Brewing **** Talk Description **** Testing applications from end to end (E2E) has always been a difficult proposition. From the days of Selenium to Webdriver, and now Protractor written specifically for Angular, this type of testing has taken far too much time and has been largely unproductive. The tests take too long to run and fail intermittently for no apparent reason at all. It's difficult to test features of an application without spending lots of time setting up "magic data" scenarios so we can verify that each aspect our application works as expected. This arduous process leads many developers to frustration and eventually resigning to using E2E testing for simple smoke tests. No More! Introducing Cypress.io, a new way of doing E2E tests that makes life incredibly simple and easy to manage. Cypress allows developers to focus on what's important and get the results we want without having to jump through a million hoops. We will be exploring what Cypress.io has to offer, how to set it up, and how it will change how you look at E2E tests. **** Speaker Bio **** Jesse Sanders is the founder and CEO of BrieBug and a Google Developer Expert (GDE) in Angular and Web Technologies. He regularly speaks around the world on Angular and related web technologies to inform and inspire developers on how to build the next generation of web applications. He regularly teaches workshops on Angular fundamentals, NgRx, and advanced Angular topics. He specializes in architecting systems using Angular for enterprise clients to help them achieve their goals. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his children, biking, skiing/snowboarding, hiking, and training for triathlons.
