Google Cloud Platform on tour: The North American Developer Roadshow!

  • Aug 5, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

First make sure to register here:

Ok everyone, it's going to be hard for me to properly convey the greatness of this event that Google just gifted on our doorstep. Just listen to the first 2 paragraphs of the program:

"Starting on July 21, Google Cloud Platform developers and engineers are visiting 11 cities across North America, providing a technical, demo-based introduction to Google Cloud Platform.

In addition to this technical introduction, the roadshow provides a great opportunity for you to meet the Googlers who build the services you know and love."

This is coming to New York City in the Chelsea mega complex and the agenda looks like this:

1:00-2:00 Registration, mingle, network
2:00-2:30 Keynote: Compute at Google
2:30-3:00 Blurring the Iaas/PaaS Divide
3:00-3:30 Cloud Power Your Android Applications
3:30-3:45 Break
3:45-4:45 Redefining Big Data with Google BigQuery
4:45-5:00 Fireside Chat
5:00-6:00 Drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and networking

I literally can't think of an event that I'd personally be more interested in. I can guarantee you 100% that this is going to fill up VERY quickly, so please run and sign up immediately if you plan on going. Here's the link you need to register:

I'm a novice with this technology and thus learned a lot, but based on the reactions of the people around me, I don't think I appreciated the full implications and power of all the tools presented. Tutorials how to design with and use of all the tools would be very useful. I'm especially interested in App Engine. Lastly, the original paper on the undersea shark bite phenomenon can be found at and a video of a shark biting an undersea cable can be found at

If anyone went to the roadshow, and didn't get a "Good to see you" notification from me, please help me and click on the button under my name so I can get the most accurate count possible. It's important because I submit these numbers to Google and they like when we have well attended events.

For a newbie like me in development the information was substantial. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Jugal and I plan on arriving around 12:45, and in the tradition of making it easy for people to find me at these types of events, I'll be wearing teal pants and probably a gray Google Chrome hoodie too (as long as it's not hot inside).

There are lots of GDG stickers to give out to anyone interested. They're nice if you want to show some GDG pride on your laptop or something like that. Apologies for a slight spamming to anyone who is also registered for the event on G+ as I just sent out a notification not too long ago.

Wanted to share an opportunity for members to get free grant money.
NJ Grant has been issued for Fiscal 2015 for eligible employers seeking to upgrade their already skilled workforce.

Sara, I read some of the details, and that's EXACTLY what it's for. They'll provide up to $100k to a single entity (company or consortium of companies), in the form of up to $1000 per person who will be receiving training in Life Science, Tech, and a couple other areas of primary focus.

Is there somewhere else that I can read more about this grant and how to discuss this with my employer?
