British Literature - high school

High School British Literature
From the oldest English writing, Beowulf, to the Canterbury Tales, to the bard of all bards, Shakespeare, and the eloquent bardess, Mary Shelley, and her Frankenstein, to Mr. Dickens, we will read classic tales, poems, short stories, plays, speeches, essays, and novels.  Through discussion, students will learn literary analysis.  Students will also master the 5 paragraph essay, going through the entire writing process.  Writings will include all 4 types: argumentative, expository, personal narrative, and descriptive.  Creative writing assignments are included.  Each class consists of a short lecture, discussion of the readings, and an activity such as writing techniques, a mock debate, and language games.  No textbook purchase is required.  Fall semester classes are Tuesdays, 9:00-10:30 a.m. from September -- - December --, 2013. $225.

Her philosophy is to respect each student's writing content and process, to try to create a safe place to share writing, and to acknowledge each students' gifts. Enjoyed the class very much and the opportunity to get together with a teacher and other students to discuss the readings. Would like more background details as history is an interest here. :)
