Located in the village of Lonar, the crater is said to have been a result of a meteorite that hit the Earth a mind boggling 52,000 years ago. The Crater is presently surrounded by lush green forests and a huge variety of birds. Fowls like ducks, owls, peacocks and Red-wattled Lapwings can especially be seen here quite often. The lake, however, does not support life and has no plant or marine life. The Lake by itself is a beautiful attraction to view. It is best experienced in the twilight, just before the sun sets. The Lonar Sarovar nearby, is home to several medicinal and aromatic plants and shrubs. There also lies the Kamalja Mata Temple on the circumference. Daitya Sudan Temple, Lonar: The Daitya Sudan Temple at Lonar is styled in a similar manner to the Khajurao Temple. The temple was built in dedication to Lord Vishnu, during the 6th and 12th A.D. – The period during which India was under the reign of the mighty Chalukya Dynasty. The temple looks like an irregular and asymmetrical star, resembling the Hemadpathi style of architecture. This place of worship has beautiful carvings on its walls. The idol itself is built with an ore and looks like it is made of stone. The shrine is pretty dark and the carvings aforementioned are revealed only with the help of a torch light. The temple’s pedestal is about 1.5 meters high and the incomplete roof hints at an intended pyramidal tower that was not gone ahead with. The exterior walls to have carved figures depicting the history of that era. Daulathabad: Daulatabad is a 14th-century fort city in Maharashtra, India, about 16 kilometers northwest of Aurangabad. The place, was once as known as Devagiri, circa the sixth century AD, when it was an important upland city along caravan routes and is now but a village, based around the former city of the same name. Starting 1327, it famously remained the capital of Tughlaq dynasty, under Muhammad bin Tughluq (r. [masked]), who also changed its name, and forcibly moved the entire population of Delhi here, for two years, before it was abandoned due to lack of water. There is a tradition that Deoghur or Doulatabad was built in 1203 AD by a Dhangar or herdsman who acquiring by some unusual good fortune vast wealth was named by his brother shepherds Rajah Ram and soon after assuming the rank of a Rajah. Ajanta: The Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad district of Maharastra, India are about 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BSE to about 480 or 650 CE. The caves include paintings and sculptures described by the government Arcaeological Survey of India as "The finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting", which are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, with figures of the Buddha and depictions of the Jakata tales. The caves were built in two phases starting around the 2nd century BCE, with the second group of caves built around[masked] CE according to the recent proposals of Walter M. Spink. • Visit to Kanha and Pench National Parks

    Kanha Tiger Reserve,

Visit to Kanha and Pench National Parks Kanha National Park (Tiger Reserve) The lush sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and ravines of Kanha provided inspiration to Rudyard Kipling for his famous novel "Jungle Book". The Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh came into being in 1955 and forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve, created in 1974 under Project Tiger. The Park's landmark achievement is the preservation of the rare hard ground Swamp Deer (Barasingha), saving it from near extinction. Pench National park, nestling in the lower southern reaches of the satpuda hills is named after Pench river, meandering through the park from north to south. It is located on the southern boundary of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Maharashtra, in the districts of Seoni and Chhindwara. The area of the present tiger reserve has a glorious history. A description of its natural wealth and richness occurs in Ain-i-Akbari. Why are we going in this hot summer? Yes, it is definitely going to be hot there too. But, this is one of the best times to spot a tiger. Since the water holes in the jungle start drying out, these predators start moving to areas with fixed water bodies and it is easier for humans to anticipate their movements. Thus tiger sightings are more common. Other than tigers, Pench National Park is also known for its diverse flora and fauna. Dense thick canopy of forest with thick vegetation including teak and its associates. Apart from the tigers, there are Jackals, Sambars, Neelgai, Blue Bull, Spotted Deer, Raptors, Chinkara, Black buck, Gaurs, wild dogs, etc. (Pics: Mr. Rajesh Parasa) Also a favorite place for bird watchers - according to an estimation of the wildlife authorities, the bird population in the park counts to be over 350+ species like barbets, bulbul, wagtails, munias, mynas, waterfowls and blue kingfishers.
