A clockwise hike. Starting at Raven Cliff Falls parking lot, we hike down Tom Miller ("Tom Killer") to Jones Gap. Note: Near the beginning of Jones Gap Trail there is a 20-foot log crossing, that may cause some folks grief. It is flattened on the top and has grids cut unto it, but it does not have a rail. It is also somewhat mossy as shown on the above photo. The alternative is a wet crossing, which - depending water conditions - could be well over your boots. Then, a stop to enjoy Dargans Cascade, and on to Cold Spring Branch where we'll have lunch. We immediately start a long, steep ascent on Cold Spring. Hereafter, and for the next two, miles we will have several creek crossings, most of them rock-hoppers. Mud and roots, too. This is a traditional GNHA hike and close to home. Hike leader's MODERATE PACE will prevail. State park pass or fee required.
