Starting at Laurel Valley parking area for the FHT just off US 178 we will climb to the top of Sassafras Mountain, at 3,554 ft. South Carolina’s highest point. Summer views and lots of new growth. All trails says it is 8.65 miles round trip and 2,205 foot elevation gain. The parking area is on gravel road. I am not sure if the turn off is well marked or not.
