I am in BESE District 1:

Lee Barrios - http://www.geauxteach...
Jim Garvey - http://www.garveyforb...
Sharon Hewitt - http://www.sharonhewi...

I am leaning towards Lee Barrios or Sharon Hewitt. Can anyone give me any guidance?

Among other things, I read somewhere that Garvey was involved with Teach for America, which is a total turn-off for me.

I voted for Sharon Hewitt......

Garvey is ON THE BOARD of Teach for America!! He is also endorsed by the Times Pic and "The Tea Party of Louisiana"...... two groups i generally DISAGREE with.

Angela recently met with Garvey regarding the LA Race to the Top program, the Early Childhood Education program, and the move toward gov't control of PRE-SCHOOL /day care programs and the involvement of SEIU. Initially he seemed very interested in helping us and invited Angela to the next BESE Board meeting (this month). HOWEVER....within days he did a BIG TURNAROUND and essentially "uninvited" Angela (she is going anyway) and disagreed with our concerns.!!!!

I early voted yesterday for Sharon Hewitt. Thought I posted a NOLA review of her positions....but can't find it now. Remember she was most closely aligned with our goals of providing the best education for our kids...with minimal government control. Also, Angela recommends Sharon Hewitt.

AND, he is proud of it according to voters who have received his latest campaign literature.
