After our last GNOTP Meeting with Joe Liss and his excellent BOOT CAMP on asking the question you want to ask and getting an answer from politicians...... I felt empowered and more confident in approaching the District 79 candidates at the District 79 Rep Forum we co-sponsored the following night.

After listening to each candidates Forum answers and speaking to them..... I have decided to vote for Julie Stokes and am working on her campaign. I feel Ms Stokes is the candidate who mostly closely shares my conservative/constitutional values. Although ALL 4 of the candidates were clueless about Agenda 21, she did ask me about it after the meeting and we had a brief discussion. She is learning about the evils of Common Core Standards and shows interest preventing a national curriculum in our schools. While I do feel she still has much to learn, I think she is approachable and reasonable.

I was not impressed with either Allison Bent-Bowles or Don Villalabos ....but think they would be better Reps than Jack Rizzuto who is the "political machine" candidate in my opinion. Mr. Rizzuto stated he would use public private partnerships to "help" District 79, and he wholeheartedly endorsed Gov Jindal's "School Choice" laws that were passed last year.

NONE of the candidates mentioned the fact that the funding of vouchers for private schools and virtual schools have been found to be unconstitutional by the LA courts!!! (Ms. Stokes WAS aware of this when I spoke to her after the Forum and she said she was NOT in favor of using public funds for private schools (YEAH!!)

If anyone is interested in phone banking or sign waving for Julie Stokes tomorrow...send me an email and I will give you the information.

Julie Stokes wins special election for Representative LA District 79 (parts of Metairie and Kenner)

With all 24 precincts reporting, Stokes had 56 percent of the vote, followed by Rizzuto with 33 percent, Bowler with 9 percent and Villalobos with 1 percent. Turnout was about 17 percent for the election, the only item on the ballot.
