RED ALERT: JP VOTERS SHOULD VOTE "NO" ON THIS NEW TAX!!!!

ALERT: JEFFERSON PARISH VOTERS. NEW 8.45-mill, 10-year property tax to fund across-the-board raises for the JP School system's employees. This NEW tax will almost DOUBLE the current 9mill tax collected for salaries and benefits!!! Essentially a 100% increase!

Ironic that in 2013, the current 9 mill tax for teachers had a SURPLUS of $7.6 MILLION DOLLARS. Did the Parish reduce the tax, return money to the people, or continue to save the $$$ for future teacher salaries??? NO, NO, AND NO!! Instead, they proposed spending the money on other things like the commie Common Core Early Childhood program!! NOW..... they want MORE of YOUR $$$$.

AND..... this new TAX will give all teachers and school employees a 10% raise. Pretty hefty in this economy...especially when you consider the COL "raise" for Social Security next year will be 2% !!!

Apparently the JP School Board does have enough money to hire a PR firm to convince voters to increase their taxes by approving this NEW tax... cost for the PR firm..... $75 THOUSAND!!!

Not everybody is on board with the proposal. The Bureau of Governmental Research, a private, independent research agency, has come out against the tax, accusing the School Board of having "rushed into this millage proposition without a comprehensive benchmarking analysis to determined whether the pay increases are fair, reasonable and appropriately scaled to the labor market."

The BGR also questioned the underlying assumptions that drove the tax proposal.

The board "has shown little evidence of a problem retaining employees other than early-career teachers," the bureau's report said.

Noting that the district also needs to improve its facilities, it concluded, "Before the School Board asks voters for a major tax increase, it should comprehensively examine its funding needs and priorities."
