Knoydart wild camping and hiking weekend

Details

A trek through the Knoydart peninsula, "Britain's last wilderness", we hike from Glenfinnan railway station, past the Harry Potter viaduct, along spectacular mountain glens, through pine forests, over high passes, following bubbling mountain streams, stopping at pretty waterfalls, to finally arrive at the scenic isolated hamlet of Inverie, home of Britain's remotest pub, the Old Forge, which is only accessible by foot or boat.

This trip is graded HARD and is for fit mountain walkers used to long days out. We will often be walking on uneven ground and there will be numerous river crossings. You will be carrying tents, sleeping bags, food and stoves and must be comfortable carrying a pack weighing 12-14kg over 16km per day for three days.

Group size: 9 per instructor.

You will be accompanied by Gareth, an experienced and friendly mountain leader who will do everything to help you on your journey.

Accommodation:

On our arrival at Glenfinnan railway station we'll be staying overnight in a sleeping car from the heritage rolling stock collection at Glenfinnan Station Museum. It was built in 1958 and retains many of its original features but has been converted by the museum into a unique and comfortable bunkhouse.

The next 2 nights we'll be wild camping; the first night on a beach at the head of Loch Arkaig and the second night on the shores of Loch Nevis.

Our final night we'll be camping on Long Beach in Inverie which offers one of the finest campsite views in Scotland!

Meals:

We'll need a hearty breakfast on our first morning and we don't have to travel too far because next to the Glenfinnan sleeping car is the dining car!

For the wild camps bring plenty of lightweight food that be cooked on the stove. You'll need to cater for 2 breakfasts (Saturday & Sunday), 3 lunches (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) and 2 evening meals (Friday & Saturday).

Our night in Inverie we have the option of another meal by stove or the Old Forge pub. I know where I'll be heading!

In Mallaig there are plenty of cafes for a big feed before our journey south.
