This stunning 15 mile hike sets out from Hassocks station, initially walking through a wooded area, and with some hills along the way. Once we arrive at Clayton we will head up onto the South Downs Way, and on a clear day we will enjoy panoramic views.
One of the major highlights of the day is passing by Devil’s Dyke, a stunning geological feature, which during the Iron Age was used as a defensive site. This is due to its spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, and steep sides. We will walk along the South Downs Way for several miles before arriving at the pretty rural villages of Upper Beeding and Bramber. From here, we will drop down towards Shoreham-By-Sea, picking up the trail which follows the River Adur all the way into town.
You will need to wear suitable attire for hiking e.g. walking boots and no jeans. It is important to bring warm layers as well as waterproofs, as upon the South Downs it can be quite exposed. Also, bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.
MEETING TIME: We will be meeting 08:45 at London Victoria in front of the departure boards near platform 12. We will be taking the 09:25 train to Hassocks, a journey time of an hour. Due back in London 19:00.
