• Better Off Read GR discusses: "Stiff" by Mary Roach

    Schuler Books and Music

Stiff is an oddly compelling, often hilarious exploration of the strange lives of our bodies postmortem. For two thousand years, cadavers—some willingly, some unwittingly—have been involved in science’s boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. In this fascinating account, Mary Roach visits the good deeds of cadavers over the centuries and tells the engrossing story of our bodies when we are no longer with them. She places each chapter’s content into a historical context by discussing the history of the method of using a cadaver she is about to witness. At A Glance 303 pages 4.06 Goodreads rating Non-Fiction > Science Publication Date: 2003 Notes: We are meeting on June 13th due to Father’s Day. We have the Studio reserved, but we may get booted for an author discussion if one gets scheduled. We will know on June 1st if we have been moved to the cafe, and will update this accordingly. • Better Off Read GR discusses: "Educated" by Tara Westover

    Schuler Books and Music

Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. Then, Tara began to educate herself. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home. At A Glance 334 pages 4.49 Goodreads rating Non-Fiction > Memoir Publication Date: February 20, 2018 Notes: Please note that we are meeting on April 28th due to Easter occurring on our regular date. We will also be meeting in the cafe of Schuler’s to accommodate this change.
