  • Better Off Read GR discusses: "Stiff" by Mary Roach

    Schuler Books and Music

Stiff is an oddly compelling, often hilarious exploration of the strange lives of our bodies postmortem. For two thousand years, cadavers—some willingly, some unwittingly—have been involved in science’s boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. In this fascinating account, Mary Roach visits the good deeds of cadavers over the centuries and tells the engrossing story of our bodies when we are no longer with them. She places each chapter’s content into a historical context by discussing the history of the method of using a cadaver she is about to witness. At A Glance 303 pages 4.06 Goodreads rating Non-Fiction > Science Publication Date: 2003 Notes: We are meeting on June 13th due to Father’s Day. We have the Studio reserved, but we may get booted for an author discussion if one gets scheduled. We will know on June 1st if we have been moved to the cafe, and will update this accordingly. Afterward, we can grab sushi and drinks across the street. GRAM is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent large-scale sculpture by renowned artist and designer Maya Lin. Created in recycled silver, steel pins, and common building materials, Lin conceives these sculptures with the use of charting, mapping, and scientific research to determine each work’s ultimate design, layout, and structure.
