We use the standard double elimination bracket and matches will be played best 2 out of 3. All matches that are classified as ‘Finals Matches’ will be best 3 out of 5. Please bring your own controller to speed up the tournament. We cannot guarantee you will have a controller provided for your own use.
TOURNAMENT ETIQUETTE & RULES TO CONSIDER:
We ask that all attendees and spectators follow these rules. Failure to do so will result in either a disqualification or ban. Anything the Esports Elites Staff or Tournament Organizer (T.O.) says is final.
1.1 Behavior: Please be respectful to all other tournament entrants, spectators, the equipment as well as staff. This includes, cursing, slurs, excessive trash talk, any form of harassment online, in person or ingame. (i.e. Naming your character a slur.) You also are prohibited from teasing your opponent verbally mid-match. (For example, making a loud noise to throw off the timing of a certain move.)
1.2 Coaching: Coaching is not allowed during matches. However you are allowed to be coached between matches if your opponent allows it. You cannot shout advice during matches in the crowd. (For example: You are able to cheer and say, “Go get him!”, but cannot shout, “He’s gonna counter again, just use your grab!”, as it is clearly telling someone how to play. ) Failure to comply after one warning will have you disqualified and removed from the venue.
1.3 Pausing: Pausing is not allowed and will be turned off. If it is ever on, the player who pauses will be forced to Self Destruct, even if it is their last stock. This applies to a player who presses the Home or Power buttons on any controller as well.
1.4 Controller Malfunctions: If there is an issue with your controller it is your responsibility to call the issue out within the first fifteen seconds of the match, otherwise you will be forced to play. In the event that an issue that does not apply to the events above occurs in the middle of a match, it will be the T.O.’s decision as to how the match will carry out.
1.5 Stage Banning/Selection: Players play a best-of-1 Rock-Paper-Scissors, and the winner may choose to either strike a stage first or select a port first. Stages are stuck in a P1-P2-P2-P1 order.
Starter Stages: Battlefield, Final Destination, Kalos Pokemon League, Smashville, Pokemon Stadium 2, Town & City
Counterpick Stages: Yoshi’s Island (Brawl), Unova Pokemon League, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 1, Yoshi’s Story (Melee)
1.6 Match Interruption & Stalling: If your controller is found to be the cause of disruption to the tournament (mid-game or otherwise), you are subject to complete disqualification from the event. You will get one warning, afterward it is your responsibility to turn off/disconnect your controller. Stalling is not allowed. This applies to both the match and character/stage selection. Combos that are classified as “Infinite Combos” are not allowed. This includes your surroundings at the actual venue as well. Be aware and mindful of the equipment around you.
1.7 Bracket Manipulation: Players suspected of colluding may be immediately disqualified from the tournament. This includes intentionally throwing a game or committing any other form of bracket manipulation. The T.O. reserves the right to deny payout of event winnings to any player suspected of colluding.
1.8 Sudden Death: If a game goes to Sudden Death, the winner is determined by stocks and percentage at the time the game ends. If both players are tied in stocks the player with the lower percentage is the winner. In the event of a percentage tie, or a game in which both players lose their last stock simultaneously, a 1 stock tiebreaker will be played with a 3 minute time limit. The results of an in-game 300% Sudden Death do not count. If Sudden Death occurs in a Sudden Death game, this process is repeated.
