For a long time multitasking was considered a must-have skill when, in fact, multitasking makes us less productive and more prone to error. But even with plenty of studies and papers supporting that idea, it can be hard to convince managers and stakeholders that we should be taking on less at a time. In this session, we'll run through 3 short simulations (Multitasking is Evil, Name Game, & Featureban) you can use to help make that case and show that lowering our work in progress is the way to go! After running through the activities, we'll have a debrief and discussion about when they could be used effectively, facilitation tips, and potential modifications.

Julie Wyman is an Agile Coach with Excella Consulting. She is a Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) and IC-Agile Certified Coach with over eight years of experience in areas including Agile software delivery, traditional project management, and client training. Julie has coached multiple globally distributed teams to deliver, while leveraging Scrum, Kanban, and other Agile frameworks. She has coached development and business teams in commercial, federal, and non-profit environments and is always looking for new activities and simulations to help teams learn and to make meetings more engaging and interactive.

Mark Grove is an Agile Coach and Management Consultant with over 20 years in the IT profession. He coaches individuals and teams to embrace the Agile mindset, deliver end-user value, and delight the customer while being open and welcoming to change. He is an ardent believer of incremental delivery, an advocate of frequent feedback, and a champion of continuous improvement. He provides coaching, training, and facilitation expertise on a variety of Agile practices and topics. Mark has a Master’s degree in Information Systems and holds agile certifications from Scrum Alliance, ICAgile, LeanKanban University, and the Project Management Institute.
