We are a friendly and inclusive LGBTQ group of people who love speaking French and discover interesting things about la Francophonie.
We meet on the 1st Friday (6 pm) and on the 3rd Saturday (4 pm) of each month in central London.
We have a good mix of native and non-native French speakers who enjoy sharing their passion for the French language and francophone cultures. The only language spoken in the group is French, therefore you will experience a full immersion. We don’t teach French, we speak it and allow you to practice / improve it. Therefore this group is Not suitable for beginners.
Each standard event lasts 3 hours and has a theme that takes around 40min. This theme can be discussed via a quiz, an article etc. Some past events: Astérix, Edith Piaf, Le chocolat et le sexe, Céline Dion, Le marquis de Sade, La revolution sexuelle de mai 68 etc. These activities are done in pair and are a good way to improve your vocabulary and learn interesting things whether you are native or not. These activities are also interesting for native speakers as we treat topics taken from magazines which can appeal to anyone.
In the remaining 2 hour 20, there will be a chance to talk with the other members of the group about anything you like and to have group discussions facilitated by the organiser. In the last part of the event, we will be playing some interesting games to get to know eachother better and have a laugh. We also organise dinners, cinema events, concerts, pic nics etc.
Attendance This group is for people who are willing to make the time to attend as often as possible to create/contribute to our group/community. I have started reviewing members attendance and will remove those who never attend. If one cannot make the time to attend an event after a few months or years then they are not suitable for our group. For privacy and security considerations for all of our members, all new membership requests will need to be pre-approved before anyone can have access to the contents posted in this group.
Contribution For our regular events there is a contribution of £3. You can pay cash upon arrival or using the free app REVOLUT ( https://www.revolut.com/ ) which is my preferred option or using Paypal. Non standard events are free.
Communication From time to time, I send members a private message, especially when they do not attend events for months. Please be polite and reply. It takes 30 seconds. If you do not attend events and do not reply to m mesage for 6 / 8 months, then it might mean that you are not interested in being a member of this group.
Please make sure you read The Reservation / Cancellation Process
- You need to RSVP (reserve) if you want to attend an event. You cannot just turn up at the event as we have limited space - If the day of the event you can no longer attend, you can cancel your reservation till 12 pm. This gives other people the chance to attend and me to plan how much material I need to preparing/bring. - Anyone cancelling after 12 or not cancelling and not turning up to the event, will be marked as No Show. It takes less than ONE min to cancel an event and I get really ANNOYED when people do not do it. - If you do not follow this process for 2 times i.e. if you get 2 No Shows, you could be denied access to an event and your place given to a regular member on the waiting list. If you do it again and get No Shows, you will be removed from the group. - I am happy to make exceptions to this rule if there are real emergencies and if you let me know.
Please make sure you read Waiting List Process
If you are on the waiting list it means that you are waiting for a place if someone cancels. If you change your mind, remove yourself from the waiting list so that other people can take your place. I suggest that you check the list of attendees from 1 pm of the day of the event to see if you are in or not. The system will also send you a notification email and via the app if you are ‘in’. Please make sure you attend if you are ‘in’ to avoid a No Show.
