What we're about
This is a friendly and inclusive LGBTQ group for those who love speaking French. We meet on the 1st Friday (6 pm) and on the 3rd Saturday (4 pm) of each month in central London.
We have a good mix of native French speakers and non-native speakers who enjoy sharing their passion for the French language and francophone cultures. The only language spoken in the group is French, therefore you will experience a full immersion. We do not teach French during the event, we just speak it and allow you to practice it and learn more.
The events last 3 hours or more and are a nice mix of language activities and talk-about-what-you-like.
There is normally a language activity (quiz, reading comprehension article etc) based on a topic that gives the name to the event (E.g. Astérix, Starmania, Edith Piaf, Le chocolat néctare des dieux et ami du sexe, Céline Dion, Le marquis de Sade etc). These are done in pair or group and are a good way to improve your vocabulary and learn interesting things whether you are native or learner. These activities are also interesting for native speakers as we treat topics taken from magazines that appeal to anyone. We often have natives saying that they have learnt something new and interesting. We also play special games to help people interact.
In the remaining 2/3 of the time you can talk in French with the other members of the group about anything you like.
We also organise dinners, cinema events, concerts, pic nics etc
For our regular events there is a contribution of £3, while other events are free.
For privacy and security considerations for all of our members, all new membership requests will need to be pre-approved before anyone can have access to the contents posted in this group.
Note: This group is for people who are willing to make the time to attend as often as possible to create/contribute to our group/community. I have started reviewing members attendance and will remove those who never attend. If one cannot make the time to attend an event after a few months or years then they are not suitable for our group.
Some members decided to block emails from this group which means they will never receive the email with the invitation to the events nor any cancellations or correspondence from me. No surprise these are often the members who never attend.
- You need to register to the event if you want to attend. It is not enough to be a member to take part to our events
- You can cancel your reservation till 12 pm on the same day of the event. Anyone cancelling after 12 or not cancelling and not turning up to the event, will be marked as No Show. After 2 No Shows, a member could be denied access to an event and their place given to a regular member on the waiting list. If more than 3 No Shows, a member can be banned from the group.
For real emergencies, send me a message and I’ll put you in the Not coming list.
If you are on the waiting list it means that you are waiting for a place if someone cancels. If you change your mind, remove yourself from the waiting list so that other people can take your place. I suggest that you check the list of attendees around 2 pm of the day of the event to see if you are in or not. Normally you also get a notification if you are ‘in’.
If you managed to read all this, we want you in our group 😋
