This is a hike to really appreciate New York City. We begin in Battery Park where there are amazing views of the Hudson. We meet up with the Hudson River Greenway in Chelsea. The parks along this path are amazing and the landscape includes a variety of plantings that includes grasses, trees and flowers. We pass by the Intrepid, and a variety of cruise ships.
A good place to stop for lunch is the Pier at about 70th Street. There are places to sit and take a break. There is a restaurant there but I don't think it will be open, so bring your lunch.
After lunch we will continue up to the West Harlem Piers park and the Fort Washington Park. After a visit to the Little Red Lighthouse we will return to the subway at around 175th Street. If the group is up for it we can stop for a beer at a local pub.
At around 13 miles this is a long hike. But the parks along the way and the stunning views of the Hudson make it worthwhile. Phrase of the day is "comfortable shoes."
