The Dungeons & Dragons team is leveling up its game this year for Extra Life.

Last year these intrepid gamers did 24 hours and this year, they are doubling down for a rollicking 48 hours of RPG goodness during the inaugural Extra Life Tabletop Appreciation Weekend (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1210)!

Join Wizards of the Coast as they host a 48-hour Dungeons & Dragons session during October 2-4, 2015!

GeekGirlCon (http://geekgirlcon.com)'s own Gaming Event Coordinator, Andy Munich (http://germancity.tumblr.com) has been invited back to a play AND also DM a session! He will be gaming for a consecutive 8-hour shift. He will also be joined by fellow staffer Shiboo Blalack (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=159437) a.k.a. Shubzilla (https://shubzilla.bandcamp.com). Trust me, hilarity will ensue.

Why is this important?

These folks are gathering together to raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital (http://seattlechildrens.org/). As a part of the Children's Miracle Network of hospitals, SCH treats hundreds of children each year, regardless of their family's ability to pay. Their staff help kids and their families face challenges more harrowing than those found in the deepest dungeon.

Last year many generous donors came together to support Irony Stonegunz, dwarf warrior (pictured below in an illustration by the talented Sheri Bates (http://www.sheribates.com/)).

Irony will return to action on Saturday the 3rd, at 8 p.m. and starting at midnight on Sunday the 4th, Andy will do what he does best: RUNNING A GAME!

This year, a rotation of twelve DMs and dozens of players will play D&D throughout the weekend as the DMs work together to create a series of adventures spanning 48 hours of thrilling gameplay! Each DM will tailor his or her own adventure to fit into a larger, connected campaign.

Andy set a modest goal as part of a greater team (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=21011) effort to raise $100,000. Andy's part of the adventure begins on October 3rd, at 8 p.m. and continues for eight hours.

Tune in to watch the mayhem unfold live on the D&D Twitch TV channel (http://www.twitch.tv/wotc_dnd) and cheer him on (or pine for his ultimate destruction).

If you would like to support Andy during this marathon, make a safe donation (https://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.participant&participantID=157505) online today. You’ll be showing your support for heroes, both imagined and very, very real. Every dollar counts with all tax-deductible donations go directly to the hospital. ALL proceeds go to help the kids at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Want other ways to get involved? Anyone can! Participate to the extent that you want. Join a D&D group, or try out a digital game—either newer titles such as Sword Coast Legends (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/digital-games/pc/sword-coast-legends) or Neverwinter (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/digital-games/pcmac/neverwinter), or classics like Baldur’s Gate II (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/digital-games/pcmac/baldurs-gate-ii-pcmac) and Icewind Dale (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/digital-games/mobiletablet-pcmac/icewind-dale). Alternatively, join some friends and play D&D board games like Dungeon! (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/board-games/dungeon), Lords of Waterdeep (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/board-games/lords-waterdeep), or Temple of Elemental Evil (http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/board-games/temple-elemental-evil).

To participate, follow these steps:

• Join Extra Life (http://www.extra-life.org) and set a personal goal.

• When creating your Extra Life account, choose “Join a Team” and select “Dungeons & Dragons (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=15379).”

• Complete the remaining steps for creating an account.

• Decide what you want to play and spread the word to potential donors.

That's it! Tune in to watch (http://www.twitch.tv/wotc_dnd) dedicated gamers play for a great cause or roll some dice with your own gaming group but let's be awesome for two days. Andy Munich and Shiboo Blalack are proud to represent GeekGirlCon (http://geekgirlcon.com) during this charity event, and we are proud of them for stepping up for a fantastic cause!

We also hope that everyone rolls some dice on October 2nd so let's do this and be a hero for kids.
