Centennial Beach Outing, Games, BBQ/Picnic & Bonfire

It was fun last year, let's hope the weather is great for us & let's plan this again!

This will also be posted in another group that Paul & I are organizers of.  We are posting in the Mingling in Delta group too.

http://www.meetup.com/Mingling-in-Delta/

Let's meet at Centennial Beach for the afternoon/early evening.  For the ease of finding each other, lets meet by the newly redone/renovated Cafe

- then we can progress to find a nice spot to accommodate us (hopefully by a bonfire we can use).

There is free parking here.  There is an abundance of things to do, we can play bocce ball or croquet, we can even bring some boardgames and card games.  Last time we flew kites, played badminton & frisbee, built sandcastles, enjoyed the fire etc.  We roasted fruit, smokies, marshmellows.

Make sure to bring your walking shoes as their are trails and we can even go on a geocache hike if anyone is interested.  We found one geocache last time, for those geocachers out there, we can show you that one as well - we can go get the other two or so that are in this park.

If you have a kite or frisbee, bring it along too!  Don't forget your cameras!  You can bring your kids, family and friends too!  (dogs permitted in some parts of the park but not in the immediate beach area)

There are picnic tables there in some areas, and we can bring some portable camp stoves & BBQs if anyone has any.  Make sure to bring stuff for yourselves to eat and drink - we can organize a potluck for somethings such as fruit or salads or snacks as well but what we found in the past, perhaps bringing your own might be better as some people don't show or whatever.  Some of us will be bringing extra things to share.  You might want to bring your own folding or portable chair.

Last time we had hamburgers & hotdogs & smokies - we also roasted marshmellows & smokies, smores as well as fruit.  Roasted marshmellows & bananas were amazing, and there was pineapples there too!  Yummy!

At the end of the night we had some hot chocolate by the fire till the rain chased us away!

We will cap off the evening by having a big bonfire - hopefully we will be able to grab one before anyone else so we can use it.   And hopefully we will be able to get enough wood ahead of time!

Nothing is better then a summer night with friends having roasted marshmallows and wieners sitting telling stories around a bonfire!

***This of course would all be weather permitting.  In the chance that the weather is horrible, stormy & rainy that day this event will be cancelled or postponed.

If people require rides, we can work out something for carpooling so that those that don't have vehicles won't be left out - we can bring you - just make sure to please give us plenty of notice  :D

If anyone is able to bring some wood for the fire, that would be very helpful!!

Also, please let us know if you are able to bring a tent, canopy or even some portable tables & chairs, that would be so awesome!

Looking forward to another great time!

With this event just 2 weeks away, I wanted to take this opportunity to co-ordinate with anyone who may need a ride to and from this event. I have room for 3 passengers in my car and I'm able to pickup and drop off people from Scott Rd Skytrain Station. Please let me know if you need a ride.
Also I just want it to be clear that everyone should be bringing their own food. If you want to bring something to share with everyone else too, you can of course feel free to do that, but don't count on or expect other people to provide food for you.
We will have a portable propane grill available on location for anyone who would like to BBQ their food, as well as firewood for our bonfire at the end of the night, so bring roasting sticks if you want to roast marshmallows, etc... (this may be subject to change depending on current fire ban laws, etc...)
I will be bringing a cooler full of ice cold drinks to share with everyone as well as some outdoor games to play.
Hope to see everyone there :D

Thank you, Paul. So till what time are you planning to stay now that you can't make a bonfire?

    Hi .

I just want to make it known to everyone who's coming, that Becky & I went to the beach last night to check on the current status of whether or not you can have a bonfire on the beach and due the dry weather, there is a fire ban in effect.
If this changes your reasons for wanting to attend this event, we understand, please just update your RSVP status to let us know that your no longer coming.
All BBQs are still allowed, just no open fires.

I will be trying my best to go earlier & get us a spot that has some shade and picnic table(s) Paul will be bringing his portable table, and well if you have a portable chair, please do bring it if you can.

Paul also will be bringing his sun shade thingy. I will also try to bring a sign that says Meetup on it so look for the meetup symbol too :)

Sorry I won't be able to make it. I've been looking forward to meeting you all. I've been on 3 weeks sick leave and just started back work so I have to take it easy. I'm working Friday and Saturday nights so I have to go home and get some sleep. Sorry to miss it. Have fun.

The weather looks like it will be a very warm day with lots of sunshine, so make sure you bring sunscreen and a sun hat.
If anyone has a sun shelter/tent they can bring and setup, that would be great as well. I'll be bringing one, but it's only 10x10 and not big enough to accommodate everyone , so the more the merrier.

Just a note to say I changed the address. The park is Centennial Beach Park - Boundary Bay Regional Park.

Like last year, let's meet near the Cafe to start & we will get a spot on the beach (or near) - hopefully a spot with a fire pit - and then we can put up a sign & post to others where we are.
