ATTN: Graphic Novel and Comics Fans:

There’s a group in Forest Park (FP) that you can attend for interesting discussions on this type of storytelling, whether you’re from Forest Park or not. It’s the Forest Park Comics Club. which meets the third Thursday of the month at 7 PM in the Forest Park Library (at Jackson and Des Plaines).

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson is the Club’s book for December 15 at 7 PM. It is a graphic novel that follows the adventures of the title character as she serves as sidekick to the Lord Ballister, who’s determined to overthrow an apparently corrupt law enforcement organization. Nimona is a shapeshifter who can transform herself into a dragon and has other powers. (Looking forward to January 19, the Comics Club selection is Hellboy: Seed of Destruction by Mike Mignola.)

The Club does not have a librarian running its meetings; instead, each Club member in turn chooses a title for discussion. In addition to the book, we talk about news, movies, and TV shows that are related to graphic novels and comics.

While you can buy the Club’s books before a meeting, they are also available at the FP Library. (You should call the Library (at[masked]) before coming in to pick up a book in order to make sure the books have arrived.) Or you can order the books yourself via SWAN. And some books may also be available on OverDrive. In addition, some libraries offer a service that allows the viewing or download of graphic novels.

Two-hour on-street parking is available near the FP Library (which is at Jackson and Des Plaines), and Club meetings last less than two hours.

So, come to the next Forest Park Comics Club meeting and join the friendly and lively discussion.

If you want more information about the Forest Park Comics Club, you can visit our Web site at or send an email to [masked]
