Pi, anyone?

I finally got an order confirmation from Element14. My Six (yes, 6) Raspberry Pi's are on their way!

Plans are to incorporate them into an access control/automation system for the space. plus, we now have something to tinker with.
These are the 'B' model, with wired ethernet.

I'll be working up a proof-of-concept for a RFID access control system as soon as I can get the usb reader and associated gear.

One thing I'd like to see is a battery-backed centralized 12-Volt DC power grid for the space to drive the access control gear and Pi's. (Door strikes are 12V, the Pi is 5V, but there are plenty of 12V->5VDC converters)
Anyone with greater electrical-foo than me want to help out? :-)

Speaking of projects? Anyone got something in mind we can put together for the Mini-Maker Faire with a couple of Pi's?
