Genome Campus, Hinxton
We welcome Kx to campus to talk about how they are applying financial analytics technology to bioinformatics with the Earlham Institute.
Kx, we are a global fast data and analytics solutions provider based in Northern Ireland. We have specialised in the capital markets industry now for the best part of two decades and our technology, the world’s fastest time series database is use in 19 out of 20 of the world’s tier one investment banks, our clients include the likes of CITI, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley etc.
Kdb+ is our super database supporting real-time analysis of billions of lines of structured data, with blazingly fast processing times and access to terabytes and petabytes of historical data. Our proprietary language q. is used worldwide by leading data scientists and analysts for advanced drill downs into vast amounts of data. STAC hold an Olympic games of processing languages (the independent benchmark committee) every 2/3 months and kdb+ currently holds 15 gold medals out of 17 categories.
In recent years, due to the explosion in data volumes from sensors and data tags, a number of use cases for our technology have arisen outside the financial sector across the big data landscape. For example a number of pharmaceutical companies use our technology to analyse mass amounts of data from clinical trials and speed up the drug development process. Others are increasingly looking to our kdb+ technology for factory sensor monitoring for preventative maintenance and data warehousing. More recently we have started working with the likes of Purdue Pharma within the commercial/business intelligence space. There are numerous other use cases within bioinformatics and real time collection where data volumes are growing beyond traditional solutions and where real time analysis and querying could greatly benefit a company’s bottom line.
